Major Types of Translation
Literary Translation
• translation of creative and dramatic prose and poetry into other
languages
Language translation needs complex mental processing. The mentally demanding nature
of the task means mistakes can easily be made. In mental processing, the translator
needs to:
• read and understand the source text
• keep the meaning or message of that text in mind
• select the most appropriate vocabulary in the target language
• use the grammatical structure of the target language
• compose that meaning/message in the target language
• make sure the new text is worded in a natural way

effectiveness of the message to

Nida’s Translation Theories
Dynamic Equivalence Formal Equivalence
• Dynamic equivalence is the quality Formal equivalence focuses attention
which characterizes a translation in on the message itself, in both form
which "the message of the original and content. In such a translation
text has been so transposed into the one is concerned with such
receptor language that the response correspondences as poetry to poetry,
of the receptor is essentially like that sentence to sentence, and concept to
of the original receptors" (Nida & concept. – literal translation
Taber, 1969, p.200).
Daga sa dibdib describes worry or
fear. The literal translation is "mouse
• Example: Storm surge equivalent in in the chest."
