Time management

According to sleep and wake up timings

Importance of sleep
Sleep is an important topic in Islamic literature. Islam
considers sleep as one of the signs of the greatness of
Allβh and encourages followers to explore this
important sign.
 Muslims have certain sleep habits and these sleep
habits correspond to some of the sleep hygiene rules
identified by modern science.
introduction
We should have a certain life style which is healthier for us
We believe islam is a perfect code of life and it tells us how
to lead our life in a balanced way
Some elements control us, internally(biologically) and
externally(universally).
 A universal clock: Allah has programmed all His creation on.
NIGHT and DAY.
An internal biological clock(inside us): which is the alarm
telling us when to sleep and stay awake.
biological clock = universal clock we live a longer + healthier +
happier

like a man with a boat when he sets the

sails and moves, doesn’t move along the wind
and putts his effort in resisting the wind and
moving against it. He struggling extraordinarily
without any fruit and only exhausts himself.

Those who live their life similar to Allah’s rules and

follow the two clocks regularly are more successful,
healthier and happier.
Why sleeping and resting
Human body has glands, each of which has a different
timings of work
Human body organs have a peak and off peak times of
working
Known as “the chine's clock of organs”
Types of sleep:
Calm sleep: also known as the deep sleep
Dream sleep: in which you dream
One day sleep should have both the types,if not then that
becomes an imbalanced sleep.
Advantages of calm sleep
80% of a normal sleep
Helps the healing process of the body
Increases the growth hormones
Increases the production of protein
Helps in retaining the face and skin fresh and young
15% of this sleep is called the deep sleep(in which a person is
completely disconnected from the world)
This is the secret of sleep
o If one is deprived of this type of sleep:
o Joint (physical) diseases
o Decrease and laziness in body motion
Advantages of dream sleep
It improves the intellect
Deepens the concentration
Solves a lot of problems regarding everyday life
Comes from the unconsciousness
o If one is deprived of this type of sleep:
o Hillusination
o Weak concentration
o Emotional breakdown
o Sophocation
According to a reaearch 90% of our physical and mental
illness is due to blood pressure and stress, which we
face on daily basis. Eventually we fall spiritually sick(get
away from Allah) as well as physically.

And only way out is to relax and sleep.

Subtopics
When to sleep
When to stay awake
Where to sleep
How to sleep
How to wake up

Because of shortage of time we’ll only discuss the.

first two points
When to sleep
At night
Western researches:
Farris di(american) every sleep hour before midnight is
equal to 3 times of sleep

Sleeping from 10 to 12 midnight, every hour of sleep is equal to 3 hours of rest.

Sleeping from 12 to 3, every hour of sleep is equal to 1.5 hours of rest.
Sleeping form 3 to 5dawn, every hour of sleep is equal to 1 hour of rest only

So according to this research if a person sleeps from 10 to 4 he will

get about 11 to 12 hours of rest. Researches show that waking up early
before sunrise prolongs your age, improves intellect, makes a person
active and improves his health on the whole, whereas sleeping till
after sunrise makes one lazy and weakens his intellect and body and
shortens his age.
70% of deep sleep is before midnight
Kidneys work according to the biological clock
between 12 to 2am.
Thyroid which secretes the growth hormones, also
works with the biological clock from 8pm to 12am. It
needs quietness(no food no talk) to work. Otherwise
growth will not be balanced
Pineal gland secrets an important hormone named
melatonin(youth+sleep hormone),only at
night(darkness) and disappears in the day.
Islamic quotations:
Prophet Muhammad (as) encouraged his companions not to
be involved in any activity after Isha prayer (darkness prayer,
which is around 1.5-2 hours after sunset
The Prophet (as) said, "One should not sleep before the night
prayer, nor have discussions after it”

Why night
A new fresh day starts at night for us.(islamic)
So the day starts after masghrib and not form 12 midnit
All the sacred and holiest occassions occurred at
night(lailatul Qadr+prophesies), start of all khair was
always at night
Why the day starts with sleep
In fact we sleep get fueled up(energy) then wake up to
earn and work. If we take proper rest then we can
guarantee our coming 24 hours to be spent perfectly
Naps (Siestas):
A short mid-day nap is called Qailulah is Islam
Napping is a cross-cultural practice
 Modern sleep scientists believe that napping provides benefits
for all ages
Western researches:
research has shown that short daytime naps improve vigilance and
cognitive functions, and are beneficial for memory consolidation.
A nap as short as 10 min can improve alertness and performance
for 2.5-4 hours
 Another study assessed the health effects of napping in 23,681
healthy Greek adults for about six years that those who napped at
least three times weekly for about half an hour had 37% lower
coronary mortality (death with strokes) than those who did not
nap
‫‪Islamic quotations:‬‬
‫‪Prophet Muhammad (pbuhp) said, "Take a short nap,‬‬
‫"‪for Devils do not take naps‬‬
‫"‪ "Sleeping in the middle of the day is right‬‬
When to stay awake
Fajr:
Western researches:
 Highest levels of oxygen in the air- which is very beneficial for the lungs.
 Highest proportion of ozone gas in the atmosphere is also at this time,

fades away until complete disappearance by sunrise.(ozone gas is

beneficial for the nervous system and energizes the muscles and skin)
Islamic quotations:
“The earth wonders from 3: from the haram blood that sheds on it, or
a ghusl of zina and sleep on it before sunrise”
“he said oh hamza…never sleep before sunrise, for I dislike it for you, Allah
distributes the riszq of worshippers from our hands”
“sleep before sunrise brings poverty”
the Prophet (as) told his companions that early
morning work is blessed by Allāh.
Between maghrib and ‘isha’a

(184‫ص‬
Imam Ali(as) said: sleeping between both the ‘isha’a brings“
”poverty
"Sleeping at the end of the day is stupid"
Conclusion
It is better to make it a habit to sleep 2 to 3 hours after ‘isha’a
Qailula(nap) is a sunnah and has many advantages let us
make it a habit
Our present sleeping routine is ours and our biological
clocks biggest enemy
Our biological clock should be similar to the universal clock
as this balances our lives and makes it longer and healthier.
When we sleep on time pray on time and eat on time we do
50% of our daily life works and will know easily when and
how to fill the remaining time, which results in a perfect
time management.
