Graphic Organizers

Graphic organizers are visual displays that show relationships between facts, concepts, and ideas. Common types include diagrams, charts, graphs, webs, and maps. Venn diagrams show similarities and differences between variables using overlapping shapes. Pie charts show the individual breakdown of parts of a whole using segmented circles. Bar graphs compare numbers between categories using bars and axes, while line graphs depict trends over time using points connected by lines. Webs and maps show relationships and hierarchical structures using shapes and arrows.

GRAPHIC ORGANIZERS

DEFINITION

• Graphic organizers are visual

displays which establish and
demonstrate relationships between
facts, concepts and ideas
(Inspiration Software Inc., 2018).
COMMON TYPES OF GRAPHIC ORGANIZERS

• DIAGRAMS • GRAPHS
• VENN DIAGRAM • BAR GRAPH
• CHARTS • LINE GRAPH
• PIE CHART • WEBS AND MAPS
• CONCEPT MAPS
• MIND MAPS
• STORY WEBS
VENN DIAGRAM

VENN DIAGRAMS
- These are used in order to
establish the similarities and
differences between two or
more variables.
- These are usually
constructed by drawing two
or more overlapping shapes
(usually circles).
PIE CHART

PIE CHARTS
- Pie charts are used to show
the individual breakdown of
the parts of the whole.
- Pie charts show dependent
data.
- These are constructed by
cutting up a circle into
segments.
GRAPHS

BAR GRAPHS
- Bar graphs generally have
categories on the x-axis, and
numbers on the y-axis. This means
that you can compare numbers
between different categories.
- The data needed in bar graphs are
independent; change in one may
not necessarily affect another.
- These are composed of bars, axes
and numbers.
GRAPHS

LINE GRAPHS
-Line graphs are usually used to
show dependent data, and
particularly trends over time.

- Line graphs depict a point value for

each category, which are joined in a
line.

- These are constructed with the use

of lines, axes and numbers.
WEBS AND MAPS

WEBS
- These show the relationship of two
or more events or concepts.
- These make use of dependent data
as the presence of one concept
may have an effect on the other.
- These are constructed using shapes
and arrows which depict an inward
or outward direction of the
concept’s causality.
WEBS AND MAPS

MAPS
- Maps are general organizers that
show a central idea with its
corresponding characteristics.
- Maps can be used to show
hierarchical relationships with the
most important concepts placed at
the top.
- Concept maps can take many
different shapes and can be used
to show any type of relationship
that can be labeled.
