Communication and Globalization

Globalization is the increasing integration and interaction between people, companies, and governments worldwide through advances in transportation and communication technology. It allows for the easy movement of goods, services, capital, and ideas across international borders. While globalization has increased economic opportunities through international trade and investment, it has also widened social and economic inequality within and between countries. Effective cross-cultural communication is vital for businesses and individuals to navigate an increasingly globalized world.

Communication and

Globalization
Global and Globalization

• These are associated with realities outside the

territories of nation-states.
• Globalization, or globalisation, is the process
of interaction and integration among people,
companies, and governments worldwide.
• Globalization has accelerated since the 19th
century due to advances in transportation and
communication technology.
How Globalization Works
• It is a process by which people and goods
move easily across borders.
• It is an economic concept—the integration of
markets, trade and investments with few
barriers to slow the flow of products and
service among nations.
• There is also a cultural element, as ideas and
traditions are traded and assimilated.

How did Globalization happen?
Globalization has been around for centuries.
Example:
Silk Road--also called Silk Route, ancient trade
route, linking China with the West, that carried
goods and ideas between the two great
civilizations of Rome and China. Silk went
westward, and wools, gold, and silver went
east. China also received Nestorian Christianity
and Buddhism (from India) via the Silk Road
(207 BCE–220 CE).
What drives Globalization?
Technology--speeded up globalization for the
last half century
Internet- revolutionized connectivity and
communication
-it helped people share their ideas much
more widely
-through e-mail communication was made
faster
What drives Globalization?

Invention of container ships, train, and

airplanes
–helped and improved transport of goods and
products
What is Bad about it?
Some areas flourished but others floundered
because jobs and commerce moved elsewhere.
Technology was used by cyber criminals to steal
millions of pounds a year.
Global wealth skyrocketed but so did Global
warming.
It operates mostly in interest of the richest
countries.
What is Bad about it?
It didn’t helped in closing the gap between
the poorest and richest nations.

If done WISELY, it could lead to “unparalleded

peace and prosperity.”

If done POORLY, it could lead “to disaster.”

proficiency doesn't mean memorizing every
cultural nuance of every market. It's knowing
when to listen, when to ask for help, and when
—finally—to speak”.

We are expanding our understanding of
fellowship and as we become more
connected, we are deepening our educational
experiences.
When you can see the world through new
eyes, you have the opportunity to innovate
and develop new educational opportunities,
rethink how and why we communicate and
create new systems to do both.
