The World Bank was founded in 1944 at the Bretton Woods Conference to provide development loans for postwar reconstruction. It focuses on fighting poverty and promoting shared prosperity through projects in areas like human development, agriculture, the environment, and infrastructure. Examples of projects include flood management in Metro Manila and education centers in Africa. The World Bank aims to provide long-term capital and loans to support economic development and ensure balanced international trade. Currently, many nations require more aid to work through development as global debt levels rise, which the World Bank addresses through programs like debt relief.
