AMERICAN SCOCIETY OF CIVIL ENGINEERS CODE OF
ETHICS:
 An international code of ethics for Engineers which was first adopted
in 1914. It has been amended and revised at various times. most
recent update was on July 29, 2017.
 Fundamental principle:

Engineers should maintain the prestige and integrity of profession


by:
 using professional skills and knowledge for greater good of
environment and overall human welfare.
 Being sincere and truthful while serving the client.
 Be committed to increase expertise and prestige of engineering
profession
THE ASCE CODE OF ETHICS
The ASCE Code of Ethics for Engineer has 8 principal elements that outline
the standards of ethical conduct.

PRINCIPLE( CANON) 1.
Engineering professionals must give central importance to safety, well being
and overall goodwill of society and apply principle of sustainability in
design process.
 Engineers should fulfil their responsibility towards their society by approving
the standard designed documents which are safe for public wellbeing and
health.
 If engineers design are overruled which can compromise the public safety
and wellbeing than engineer has responsibilities for reporting with details to
concerned authorities.

PRINCIPLE 2.
Engineers should use their professional skills only in their related field of
expertise.
 Engineers must avoid sealing and approving any designed document and task
in which they don’t have any expertise and education.
PRINCIPLE 3.
The public statement issued by professional engineer must be based on
truth.
 Engineers should circumvent the any kind of exaggerated and unfair
statement to the public.
 Professional engineer’s public statement must be based on science and truth
and must not be influenced by any interested parties.

PRINCIPLE 4.
Engineers should avoid the conflict of interest and should acts as
professionals while dealing with clients.
 Engineering should not take any kinds of compensation from multiple
parties unless all parties are agreed.
 Engineers should avoid using third party information which can have
adverse impact to their current client.

PRINCIPLE 5.
Professional engineers should compete fairly and they should be honoured
based on merit
 Engineers should not receive unlawful political favour to secure the
contracts or jobs.
 Engineers should not give false information on their academic and
professional qualification.

PRINCIPLE 6.
Professional engineers should always acts in such a way which
increases the respect and dignity of profession and should adopt zero
tolerance policy for corruption.

PRINCIPLE 7.
Engineers should update themselves to continue their professional
development and should provide the platforms for junior engineers to
build their professional career.
 Professional engineer should motivate their fellow employee engineer
to participate meeting and seminars.
 Professional engineer should pass their expertise to junior employee.

PRINCIPLE 8.
Engineers should not discriminate on the basis of age, sex, religion,
affiliation to political parties.
 Diversity of communities must be kept in mind while planning.
