Operations
Business policy is the study of the roles and
responsibilities of top- level management, the
significant issues affecting organizational success and
the decisions affecting organization in the long-
run. ... Business policies are the guidelines developed
by an organization to govern its actions.
The importance of Operational Policies

•Consistency- When everyone on staff follows the same


rules , policies, and procedures.

•Satisfaction- When your employees have a shared sense


of what to do and how to do it , more cohesive staff that
effectively satisfy the customers.

•Mutual understanding-Clearer communication leads less


confusion and smoother work experience.
Features of Business Policy

∆Specific - Policy should be definite.


∆Clear- Policy must be unambiguous.
∆Reliable/Uniform- Policy can be
efficiently followed by the subordinates.
∆Appropriate- Policy should be appropriate
to represent organizational goal.
∆Simple- It should be simple and easily
understood by all in organization.
Features of Business Policy
∆Inclusive /Comprehensive- In order to
have a wide scope
∆Flexible- It should be wide scope to
ensure that the line managers use them.in
repetitive/routine scenarios.
∆Stable- It will lead to indecisiveness and
uncertainly in minds.
Some Policies in Business Operations :

•Anti-Fraud Policy-Fraud refers to any intentional act


or omission designed to deceive Encana or others to
secure a benefit, and also includes fraud as defined by
law.
•Confidentiality Policy- This Confidentiality Policy is
designed to protect confidential information and to assist
employees, contractors and directors in complying with
their confidentiality obligations.
•Conflict of Interest Policy- A conflict of interest may
also occur where involvement in any activity creates,
or appears to create, a situation where judgment or the
ability to act in the best interests of the business is
affected.
•Information Management Policy- This Policy and
its related practices cover company information from
its creation or acquisition through to its use,
distribution, storage, accessibility, communication and
destruction.
•Prevention of Corruption Policy-This Prevention of
Corruption Policy will be used in identifying and
managing corporate and individual risk relating to corrupt
practices or improper payments.
•Securities Trading and Insider Reporting Policy-
Securities law generally prohibits trading or dealing in the
securities of a company on the basis of undisclosed
material information.
•Corporate Responsibility Policy- This policy articulates
business commitment to responsible development where
employees , contractors and directors are empowered and
expected to comply withe the requirements of this policy.
•Environment Policy- It articulates the business
commitment to environmental stewardship where their
staff is empowered and expexted to comply withe the
requirements of this policy.
•Health and Safety Policy- It outlines commitment to
provide a safe and healthy workplace where the workers
are empowered to comply with the requirements of this
policy.

Sustainability needs to be incorporated into corporate
strategies and reflected in organizational business
goals.
2. Partner with Employees
Invest the time in training employees on the
importance of sustaining the environment and share
what the organization is doing to help conserve
resources.

3. Water Conservation
Conserving our water is something we can all participate
in by reducing the opportunities for wasting this valuable
resource.

4. Supply Chains
Maintain a list of sustainable friendly vendors and make it
a priority to only use organizations that embrace
sustainable business practices.

5. Develop a Recycling Program


Develop an in-house program for recyclable
products.

6. Chemical Management
Strive to use green cleaning products and non-
chemical products for pest control and weed
management.

7. Purchase Only Energy Efficient Products


Look for energy efficient electronic products and use
environmentally friendly settings on office equipment.

8. Develop Sustainability Work Policies


Develop sustainability policies and procedures to reinforce
the efforts.
Other business practices :
•Respectful Workplace Practice - Harassment,
discrimination, bullying, violence, intimidation and
any other disrespectful or inappropriate or offensive
behavior (collectively referred to as “Offensive
Conduct”) are not tolerated at the business.

•Acceptance of Gifts Practice – The Business Code


of Conduct prohibits employees from accepting or
giving gifts, including prizes or other advantages, that
have a greater than nominal value.
•Lobbying Practice - Lobbying is communication in
any form with elected officials and certain civil
servants of the federal, provincial or municipal
governments (“designated public office holders”) for
the purpose(s) of:
× developing or amending laws, regulations, policies,
guidelines, etc.; or
×obtaining a financial benefit, such as a grant or
contribution.
•Driver Distraction Practice- This practice applies the use
of electronic devices while operating a motor vehicles
and other driver distraction.
