What is confidentiality and privacy? How are

the two different?
Dealing with Privacy and Confidentiality

We often use the terms "confidentiality" and

"privacy" interchangeably in our everyday lives.
To begin with, confidentiality refers to personal
information shared with an attorney, physician,
therapist, or other individual that generally cannot
be divulged to third parties without the express
consent of the client.
On the other hand, privacy refers to the freedom
from intrusion into one's personal matters, and
personal information.

What are the tips in order to preserve privacy

and confidentiality?
Dealing with Privacy and Confidentiality

1. Privacy is deeply personal

With the evidently widespread use of social media, privacy concerns have
also emerged. If your friend lets you view a photo from his/her phone, just
don’t bother swiping further for more photos. Moreover, think before you
click,

2. Confidentiality is a moral obligation

If a friend tells you something private, you certainly don’t have the right to
share it with others unless you were given the permission to do so. Trust is
earned. You can neither ask nor beg for it so be mindful of your actions.
Don’t act according to your impulse!

3. Try putting yourself in his/her situation

Think about a possibility when you were the once disclosing or

opening up something private and sensitive to someone. How would
you feel if he/she broadcasts it to anybody? Nobody wants to feel
betrayed and distrusted so always follow the GOLDEN RULE.

4. There are better and more creative and

effective ways in disclosing privacy

You can never absolutely disclose privacy. If you already feel highly impulsive,
you may try disclosing something to your trusted companions by making the
sharer of the information absolutely anonymous or you may use aliases, just
not the blatant details of the sharer.

5. ALWAYS look at the bigger picture

Freedom is a choice. You can always choose to act on something but you are never
spared of its consequences may it be good or bad. Before doing something, think
beforehand about the implications. Think more than twice before posting that on
Facebook. Meditate first before opening up the inbox of the other. Otherwise you
will face the sanctions imposed by society or worse, by law.
