The borderline between the subject


and the verb, the number of each
part, the tenses, and other features
of these two components are
indispensable in the agreement.
These rules are your guidelines in
the construction of acceptable and
grammatically correct discourses.

● A verb must agree with its subject in number.
● A singular subject takes a singular verb and a plural subject
takes a plural verb. They key is to correctly identify the subject of the
sentence and decide if it is singular or plural. Then, match the verb to
the subject.

● When, or, nor, neither-nor, either-or connect two subjects, one of which
is singular and one is plural, the verb agrees with the nearer
subject.

● The pronoun you always take a plural form.

● The collective noun takes a singular verb except when the
members of the group are regarded individually.
