Revised Quality Management System (QMS)
standard for the automotive Industry, developed by
International Automotive Task Force (IATF).
This revised standard cancels & replaces ISO/TS
16949 – 2009
 Aligned with ISO 9001 – 2015

Not a standalone QMS – must be used in


conjunction with ISO 9001 – 2015

IATF 16949:2016 Documentation Requirements
IATF 16949:2016 has greatly expanded upon required
documentation compared to TS 16949:2009. The IATF
16949:2016 standard is based on ISO 9001:2015, which means
that it contains all of the requirements listed in ISO 9001
concerning documented information, as well as additional
mandatory documentation. The following is the list of mandatory

IATF 16949 Manual
IATF 16949 Manual contains sample copy of
quality manual as well as clause wise details on
how IATF 16949:2016 systems are implemented.
It covers the context of organization, sample
policy, objectives, scope, organizations structure
as well as macro level each requirement IATF
16949:2016 on how it is implemented in the
organization.
IATF 16949 Procedures
IATF 16949 Procedures documents covers mandatory
procedures as per IATF 16949:2016 covering all the
details like purpose, scope, responsibility, how
procedure is followed as well as the list of exhibits,
reference documents and formats. Total 20
procedures are addressing the requirements of IATF
16949:2016 standard. IATF 16949 Procedures need
to be written down, made available to relevant
employees, monitors, documented and updated.
Process
It covers guideline for processes interaction
model useful for process input and output. It
covers activities of all the main and critical
processes with input-output matrix for
organization. It helps any organization in
process mapping as well as preparing process
documents for own organization.
Process Flow Charts
It covers guideline for processes, flow chart and
process model useful for process mapping. It
covers process flow chart and activities of all the
main and critical processes with input-output
matrix for organization.
Work Instruction
Routine activities follow documented procedures.
These are typically defined as work instructions.
While quality manuals and processes describe
tasks and approaches, procedures and work
instructions give step-by-step instructions on
performing tasks. IATF 16949:2016 work
instruction covers machine wise operation work
instruction for how to perform work on machine
by operator.
Plan
•Plan is required to establish control and create system in the
organization for monitoring and measuring. A total of 6 plans
are provided as per the list given below

4. Measurement system analysis plan
5. Preservation plan
6. Verification plan
Blank Formats / Templates
Sample forms, records etc. are supporting
documents used by the company to record
information for different procedures followed.
They link the activities written in the procedure to
the records kept in the department. It covers a
sample copy of blank and filled forms that are
required to maintain records as well as establish
control and create system in the organization
IATF 16949 Audit Checklist
IATF 16949 Audit Checklist is a good tool for the
internal to make audit questionnaire while
auditing. It will bring effectiveness in auditing. It
covers sample audit questions based on all the
IATF 16949:2016 requirements. It can be used as
a very good tool for logically auditing during
internal audit for IATF 16949:2016 to establish
proper audit trail
What is QMS?
•A quality management system (QMS) is a set of
policies, processes and procedures required for
planning and execution ( production / service
/development ) in the core business area of an
organization. (i.e. areas that can impact the
organization's ability to meet customer requirements).

•A QMS should be able to provide a frame work for


continual improvement and to increase the
profitability of enhancing customer satisfaction.
To Establish a QMS, org. must:
1. Understand internal factor such as organizational culture
2. Understand external factors such as the socio-economic conditions under
which it operates;
3. Determine theneeds and expectations of customers and other
interested parties.
4. Establish a quality policy and quality objectives for the organization
5. Determine the processes and responsibilities necessary to achieve
objectives
6. Establish and apply methods to measure the effectiveness of each process.
7. Determine the meansof preventing nonconformities and
eliminating their causes.
8. Providing an adequate monitoring and review system.
9. Establish and apply a process of continual improvement
of the quality management system.
