Location : Pune District, Maharashtra
Population ( 2011) : 17,27,692
Area : 181 sq km

The city is located at an altitude of 530 m (1,740 ft)

above sea level, at a distance of about 15 km,
northwest of the city of Pune.

Pimpri Chinchwad is one of the major industrial

hubs in Asia .

Modal Share of NMT :

Walk : 59%
Cycle 18%

Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation is

developing around 30 kms of NMT friendly streets
under the Urban Streetscape Project & Smart City
Mission.

It also has a functioning PBS system.

People friendly NMT infrastructure

Perception Survey was floated on the Smart Sarathi App and the social media pages of the PCMC.
1456 respondents participated in the survey

Few takeaways from the perception survey :

Women participation in the online survey was low : 5%

25% of the respondents cycle regularly and 28% cycle once a week
10% of the respondents cycle to work

Four major barriers for cycling as pointed by the respondents :

1. Safety ( Fear of hitting by High speed vehicles ) : 64% respondents
2. Obstruction such as parked vehicles, pedestrians etc. : 51% respondents
3. Traffic Congestion : 51% respondents
4. No Cycle Parking : 45% respondents

As per feedbacks received from cyclist groups,
Hinjewadi Industrial Association and the citizens
through various social surveys and meetings, we have
connected three neighborhoods to Hinjewadi. This will
allow people to cycle and promote cycle to work from
these areas to Hinjewadi, which is a major work zone
around the area. This will also promote the other small
trips within the neighborhoods such as shopping,
leisure, exercise, etc. safely on cycles.

Pimple Following are the 3 neighborhoods :

Nilakh Pimple Nilakh,
Pimple Saudagar and
Wakad

The network of the pop up lanes also allows people

from Aundh area in Pune to safely commute to
Hinjewadi on Cycles.
