Anthropometry

Anthropometry is the study of human body measurements and proportions that is important for architecture. It provides data on average body sizes that architects use to properly size and position building elements like stairs, doors, and fixtures so they are comfortable for most people. Anthropometric data is especially important for childcare centers where toilets and sinks are smaller based on the average child's size. Architects must consider body positions like standing, sitting, and sleeping to appropriately design spaces for different human activities.

Importance in Architecture
Anthropometrics is used throughout architecture and is
important to most aspects of the inhabited part of the
building.

Anthropometrics is used as the basis for many

regulations and for positioning and sizing building
elements. For example stairs, furniture, doors, signs,
handles, plumbing fixtures, are all sized and positioned to
be comfortable and convenient for average sized people.

Example :Child care centre:

Toilets and basins for the children are at lower levels
and are of smaller sizes. This is because the average user is
smaller.
An adult sized user will find it uncomfortable and
awkward to use these facilities.
