Good morning children. Today we are going to listen to a story. The story is called 'The Big Bad Wolf'. I want you to listen carefully and see if you can tell me what happens in the story. (Teacher reads story) Now, who can tell me what happened in the story? Pupil 1: The big bad wolf tried to blow down the house of straw but he couldn't. Pupil 2: Then he tried to blow down the house of sticks but he couldn't. Pupil 3: Finally, he blew down the house of bricks and ate the 3 little pigs.

Introduction to KSSR Curriculum

Listening and Speaking
Objectives:

• To distinguish between the receptive and productive


skills in teaching Listening and Speaking skills within
the KSSR curriculum.
• To discuss and devise materials for teaching auditory
discrimination, memory and sequencing and developing
vocabulary and language comprehension.
• To examine and demonstrate a variety of lessons by
adapting and adopting them in order to teach the sounds
of the English language as suggested in the KSSR
Teacher’s Guidebook.
Receptive and Productive Skills

• Which of the above is a receptive and productive skill? Provide


reasons for your choice.

• What is the difference between written and spoken skills? Provide


examples or evidence for your answers.
Productive Skills

Spoken

• Great range of expressive possibilities - varying pitch,


intonation and stress in their voice
• Can re-phrase, speed up or slow down – in response to the
feedback given
• Range of facial expressions, gestures and body language to
convey the message
• Accuracy – say the same things in different ways – change
the subject in mid-sentence

• Illiterate – mistakes, half finished sentences
