FEEDBACK
Figure 1: Research Paradigm
Statement of the Problem
This study aims to determine the family relationship and its effect on the daily school
attendance of Senior High School Students in Mabini National High School S. Y. 2018-2019.
Specifically, this problem aims to answer the following questions.
1. What is the demographic profile of the students?
• Gender
• Monthly income of parents
• Grade level
• Section
2. What are the effects of family relationships in daily school attendance?
Hypothesis
This study will be guided by the hypothesis.
There is significant difference among the effect of daily school attendance of the senior high
school students when grouped according to profile.
Significance of the Study
The researcher believed that this study will be helpful to the following:
Department of Education. This study will help the government agency to determine how many
students are regularly attending their classes.
Teachers. This study will give them an idea on how they encourage the students to attend their class
regularly.
Parents. This will help them know what they are going to provide to their children that can help them
improve their studies.
Students. This will help them prevent or minimize the number of Balik Arlas, repeaters and getting a
failed Grades.
Future researchers. The result of this study will help other researchers who were going to conduct
similar studies. It can give them ideas and can use as their basis.
Scope and Delimitation
This study will look into the Family relationship and its Effect on the daily school attendance of the
Senior High School Students. The study will use the quantitative research design.
The respondents of the study will be the entire Senior High School Students. The data will be
gathered using self-made questionnaire from July-October 2018.
Definition of Terms
To have a clearer understanding of this study, the following terms were defined within the
context of this investigation.
Academic Performance. It refers to the students work or performance according with their
activities.
Attendance. A record of how students often attending his or her classes.
Drop outs. A students who stops or quit going to school and attending classes.
Family relationship. This are the relationship by the students with their family situation and
financial issues.
Students with failed grades. This refers to the students who were unable to meet the grades to
pass the particular subject.
REVIEW OF RELATED LITERATURE
AND STUDIES
This chapter shows some related literature and
studies that could further enrich the background
of the study. These literature and studies bring
out some facts and interesting conversations
which enable the researcher to gain deeper and
wider insight on the objective of the study.
Related studies
Decreasing the rate of students absent has been continues to be the goal of
school districts across the nation for over a century. Amazingly little research
focuses on what schools can do to maintain students’ daily attendance and even
fewer studies explore how families-school-community can build a partnership to
work together towards this goal. Corville and Smith (2015) states that “Despite
the long history of concern over students’ attendance. The issue has receive
relatively little attention from educational researcher”. Instead of focusing on
students attendance, researcher have mainly focused on students who drop out of
high school before receiving diplomat because of some problems at home. Even
though a great deal of research exists on students who did not attending their
classes. In order to understand and reduce the problem on students’ who did not
attend their class, researcher should first investigate the early warning signs in
students’ behavior before it escalates to students’ actually leaving school.
Related literature
According to (Lamdin,2008) student with better attendance score higher on achievement test that their more
frequently absent. If schools across the nation are being met with the challenge of making adequately yearly progress,
which is a state mandate, then more programs need to be funded in school to address the issue of daily school
attendance. It is a fact that the poor attendance predict dropping out of school. Chronic absents can have a negative
impact on the students and school. Students who are not in school are not learning and are not being adequately
prepared to the successful in school and in life.
The students attendance will be monitored on a daily basis with weekly scheduled students check in to talk about
attendance. Historically, school have always held the students accountable for daily school attendance. Most schools
receive funds by the population they have attending school on a regular basis. If districts and school attendance rate are
low. Also in some locations students attendance is used as an indicator of how well a school is functioning and
requirements are set and monitored for rating (Mary Land state Department of Education 2010). A family is for more
than a collection of individuals sharing a specific physical and psychological space. (Mclanahamn and Sanderful,
2008). A students has a family problem does not concentrate in studying and they will hard to catch the attention of the
students. Britten and Britten (2009) advice parents to spend quality time with their children, to talk to them and show
them love.
In todays society, parents hardly spend anytime with their children. Parents should find time to listen to their
children’s problems and joys so parents must have a quality time and a good relationship between parents and
children’s. Kiura (2009) also indicated that when children see that their parents love each other the students will
motivate to attend their classes. He also asserted that parents should always tell their children the reason why they have
to beat them and praise their children more often that they punish them, in that way the children will understand why
parents doing that way of disciplined their children’s.
Chapter 3
METHODOLOGY
Research design
In this study, the descriptive survey method will be employed to identify the Family
relationship and its effect on the daily school attendance of the senior high school of Mabini
National High School S. Y. 2018 to 2019.
Since this design used questionnaire or other instruments to generate data needed by the
research.
Selection and Description of Respondents
The respondents of the study will be drawn from the Senior High School Students of Mabini
National High School Mabini Gamu Isabela. From a total of 145 Senior High School Students on
50 Students were asked to participate in the study. The respondents include 10 students each
section.
Data Gathering Instrument
Research instrument that will be used in this study will be a questionnaire which
consists of two parts.
Part 1 is the personal profile which includes gender, year and monthly income of parents.
Part 2 will asses the Family relationship and its effect on daily school attendance of
students.
Data Gathering Procedure
The researcher will take several process to gather data for this study. The procedures
are enumerated as follows:
Obtaining permission. The researcher will seek permission from the School Principal by
giving a request letter to its office.
Distribution of Questionnaire. The researcher will distribute the questionnaire to the
selected respondents.
Assessment of data. The data gathered from the questionnaire will be verified. Analyze,
and checked by the researcher according to the research design shown in this chapter.
Statistical treatment of data
To analyze the data, several statistical will be used.
•Frequency Distribution will be used to account the answers of the respondents on their profile
•Mean will be utilized to describe the family relationship and its effect on the daily school attendance
•Analysis of variance (ANOVA) will be used to determine if there is a significant difference or the effects
on their daily school attendance in the relationship with their family.
