Deficiency Diseases: Presented by Saumya Singh 6B

Deficiency diseases occur due to a lack of nutrients over a long period of time. Some key deficiency diseases include marasmus caused by a lack of proteins, fats, and carbohydrates; kwashiorkor caused by a lack of proteins; and night blindness caused by a lack of vitamin A. Other deficiency diseases are caused by a lack of vitamin B1, C, D, calcium, phosphorus, iodine or iron. Deficiency diseases develop when the body has been without the essential nutrient for some time and can cause symptoms like swelling, bleeding gums, stunted growth, and anemia.
