Condition Monitoring Systems (CMS)

A condition monitoring system (CMS) monitors key parameters of machinery like vibration, temperature, and speed to identify changes that indicate developing failures. Using CMS and vibration analysis equipment allows scheduling maintenance before failures occur. CMS helps keep machines running by detecting issues in advance through methods like shock pulse monitoring, vibration analysis, and evaluated vibration analysis. Predictive maintenance with CMS offers cost savings over routine maintenance by performing tasks only when needed to prevent failures. CMS provides automated evaluation of measurement data to clearly indicate maintenance priorities and save time and costs.

CONDITION MONITORING

SYSTEMS (CMS)

BY
KANCHAN D MULGUND
WHAT IS A CONDITION MONITORING SYSTEM (CMS) ?
 Condition monitoring is the process of monitoring the parameters of condition in machinery, such that a
significant change is indicative of a developing failure.
 By using the right condition monitoring system and vibration analysis equipment, you can identify any changes
in the critical parameters of the machinery, such as:

 Vibration

 Temperature

 Speed

 You can better schedule maintenance  or other actions to be taken to avoid the consequences of failure,
before the failure occurs.
HOW DOES A CMS HELP?

 Condition Monitoring Keeps Your Machines Running

An effective condition monitoring system pays for itself within a very short time. With condition and
vibration monitoring, you know when something starts to go wrong and are able to prevent failure in
advance.
It specializes in providing you the technical solution to monitor your machinery and keep them running in
optimum condition.
CONDITION MONITORING METHODS
 The Shock Pulse Method (SPM)
The Shock Pulse Method (SPM) is the only successful monitoring technique specializing on rolling element
bearings by determining accurate information on:
 the mechanical state of the bearing surfaces.
 the lubricating condition throughout the bearing life-time.

 Vibration Severity Measurement(VIB)

Vibration severity measurement (VIB), based on an international standard, is a practical method to check
general machine condition and detect out-of-balance, misalignment, and loose parts or mountings.

 Evaluated Vibration Analysis Method(EVAM)

The Evaluated Vibration Analysis Method (EVAM) is a vibration analysis method that is used for analyzing
all measurement data in a very sophisticated manner. The result will be in-depth automatic data evaluation

for exceptionally fast and simple troubleshooting.

EFFECTIVE ADVANTAGE OF CMS
Predictive Maintenance (PDM)
 techniques help determine the condition of in-service equipment in order to predict when maintenance
should be performed. This approach offers cost savings over routine or time-based preventive
maintenance,
because tasks are performed only when warranted.

 Such predictive maintenance which are performed only when warranted prevents machine failure
and offer
higher cost savings over routine time-based preventive maintenance.
 Serviceable machinery includes rotating machines such as turbines and stationary plant such as boilers and
heat exchangers.

THE BOTTOM LINE

Automated System Saves Time & Cost

To save time and clearly indicate the maintenance priorities, these systems automatically evaluate
measured data and supply a green - yellow - red condition signal as first hand information. This is
backed up with comprehensive software suite.
