Factors Affecting Internet Addiction Among Grade 12 Students of Northern Antique Vocational Schools

This research paper examines the factors affecting internet addiction among grade 12 students at Northern Antique Vocational School. The study aims to determine the level of internet addiction among students by gender and identify the key factors driving addiction. A survey was administered to 200 grade 12 students, with equal numbers of male and female respondents. The results showed that female students reported higher levels of internet addiction than males, which was attributed to factors like boredom, lack of parental attention, and peer influence. The research concludes that over one-third of students exhibited signs of internet addiction, primarily mild cases, and recommends increasing parental involvement and instituting awareness programs on the effects of addiction.

AMONG GRADE 12 STUDENTS OF NORTHERN ANTIQUE VOCATIONAL
SCHOOL are prepared and submitted by Jessielyn Ratera, Jenny Dalangbayan,
Jhoniel Sido, Erico Angelo Francisco, Rica Joy Entico, and Shienna Marie Revilla
in partial fulfillment of the requirements for the subject research report (Inquiries,
Investigation, and Immersion), has been examined and is recommended for
acceptance and approval for oral examination.
Research problem
•This study aims to determine the factors affecting the internet addiction
among Grade 12 students of Northern Antique Vocational School

•What is the level of Internet Addiction among Grade 12 students of Northern

Antique Vocational School according to their gender?

•What are the factors affecting Internet Addiction among Grade 12 students of
Northern Antique Vocational School?

•How does Internet Addiction affect the studies of those Students?

• The beneficiary of our research are the Grade 12 students of Northern
Antique Vocational School because many students are faced with severe
academic problems because they spend a significant amount of study time
surfing irrelevant websites using social media, and playing interactive
games on the internet. These students had problems completing homework
assignments, studying for exams for the class in the next morning due to
late night internet use.
Theoretical framework

• The theoretical framework that this study used to discuss about internet
addiction will be Uses and Gratifications theory. The application of Use and
Gratifications (U&G) Theory explained how the social factor (peer influence)
affect the students engage in internet use and how to lead to internet
addiction. Besides, above review also pointed out that many factors which
cause one addicted to internet. The most influential factor could be social
support group. The review discusses about how the peer influence affects
most adolescents on risky behavior. One of the risky behavior which is being
discussed above is overly using internet, which will lead to internet addiction.
In addition, the gender difference is also playing a role in internet addiction.
Research paradigm

• Internet Addiction, One of the studies of Hamade (n.d) showed the distribution
of students among three levels of internet addiction. It showed that 75.6% of
female no sign of addiction compared to only 46.6% of males. Besides that, less
than 25% of females are addicted to the internet and more than 50% of male
students are addicted.
• Moreover, about 18% of males are highly addicted to the internet but females
only 6% are highly addicted. In other words, male students are more addicted to
the internet than female students and the reason could be that male students
enjoy more freedom than female students such as spend time outside the house
and with friends, and visits internet cafes, game networks and other places.
Methodology
• This chapter presents the research design, locale of the study, the
respondents, data gathering instruments, data gathering procedures, and
data analysis procedures.

Research design
• In this study, data will collect by using survey method. This study will use the
cross-sectional design whereby all variables will collect at the same point of
time. One set of the questionnaire which is Internet Addiction Test (IAT) is
used for this study. This non-experimental study that has demographic
variables, such as gender.
