Engineering Studies: By: Rokas Stankevičius

Engineering involves using scientific principles to design and build machines, structures, and other items. Engineers design and develop new products, run tests, and solve problems using science and design principles. There are several branches of engineering including mechanical, civil, electrical, chemical, management, and geotechnical engineering. Engineers work in various industries and play an important role in innovation and infrastructure development. Studying engineering provides career options and social benefits but also requires a rigorous curriculum.

What is Engineering?
According to Wikipedia, „Engineering is the use of scientific principles to
design and build machines, structures, and other items, including bridges,
tunnels, roads, vehicles, and buildings.“
What do Engineers do?

• Albert Einstein once said, “Scientists investigate that which already is.
Engineers create that which has never been.”
• “Engineers like to solve problems. If there are no problems handily
available, they will create their own problems.“ - Scott Adams
• Scientists and inventors often get the credit for innovations that advance
the human condition, but it is engineers who are instrumental in making
those innovations available to the world.
What do Engineers do?
• Desings and develop new
products,
• Uses principles of science,
• Runs tests,
• Creats and builds things,
• Uses the design process to help
solve problems.
Main Branches of Engineering
• Mechanical engineering
• Civil engineering
• Electrical engineering
• Chemical engineering
• Management engineering
• Geotechnical engineering
What Mechanical Engineers Do?
• Mechanical engineers play an important role in the automotive, aerospace,
biotechnology, computer and electronics, automation, and manufacturing
industries.
• Design, develop, build, repair and test all sorts of mechanical devices,
tools, engines and machines.
• Manufacture everything from small parts like miniature connectors to
large machine tools.
Types of Mechanical Engineering
Degrees
• Mechanical engineering degree
• Aerospace engineering degree
• Biomedical engineering degree
• Biomechanical engineering degree
• Automotive engineering degree
What Do Civil Engineers Do?
• Designs and oversees the construction of public works, such as roads,
bridges, dams, tunnels, buildings, airports, water and sewage systems, and
other large infrastructure projects.
•  Applies scientific knowledge to improve infrastructure and common
utilities that meet basic human needs.
• Compiles reports which detail project feasibility and cost estimates.
Types of Civil Engineering Degrees
• Civil engineering degree
• Structural engineering degree
• Architectural engineering degree
What Do Electrical Engineers Do?
• Applies the physics and mathematics of electricity, electromagnetism and
electronics to design and develop new electrical equipment and systems,
to solve problems and to test equipment.
• Work on various projects, from designing household appliances to
designing large-scale electrical telecommunication systems, electrical
power stations and satellite communications systems.
• Use computers to simulate how electrical devices and systems will
function.
Types of Electrical Engineering Degrees
• Electrical engineering degree
• Computer engineering degree
• Electronics engineering degree
• Mechatronics engineering degree
• Robotics engineering degree
• Microeletronic engineering degree
What Do Chemical Engineer Do?
• Transform raw materials into useful products that we can all use, such as
clothes, food, drink, and energy.
• Influences various areas of technology by thinking of and designing
processes for producing, transforming, and transporting materials.
• Experiment in the laboratory to test products.
Types of Chemical Engineering Degrees
• Chemical engineering degree
• Environmental engineering degree
• Materials science engineering degree
• Agricultural engineering degree
• Paper engineering degree
What Do Management Engineers Do?
• Solve operational problems and improve levels of quality, service, or
productivity.
• Improve the availability and validity of information used in analysis and
decision making.
• Determine the most efficient and effective way to run a department or a
company.
Types of Engineering Management Degrees
• Engineering management degree
• MBA (master of business administration)
in engineering degree
• Industrial engineering degree
• Systems engineering degree
• Manufacturing engineering degree
What Do Geotechnical Engineers Do?
• Perform site investigations before any construction work takes place.
• Design foundations, tunnels, embankments, retaining walls.
• Guard and maintain the earth's physical environment during the
development of major public and private projects.
Types of Geotechnical Engineering Degrees
• Petroleum engineering
degree
• Geological engineering
degree
• Nuclier engineering degree

Pros of Studying Engineering
• Vast career options
• Monetary rewards
• Social credibility
• New opportunities
• Solve global problems
Cons of Studying Engineering
• Harsh Curriculum. Engineering requires a lot of hard work.
So if you want to acquire that sweet engineering diploma,
you have to do an intense amount of laborious work.
• Expensive. If you want high quality and excellent
engineering education, you also need to squeeze your wallet
to pay more or get state funded studies.
• Lack of women studying engineering.
