• to talk about actions that are happening right
now

Someone is talking outside.
A mobile phone is ringing.

Negatives and Questions in the Present Continuous Tense

Questions and Negatives

Questions:
To be + subject + verb + ing +...?
WH-word + to be + subject + verb + ing + ...

Negatives:
Subject + to be + not + verb + ing ...

Rules to form the Gerund
• Rule A: If a word ends in e, drop the e before
adding –ing.
– Example: come + ing =coming

• Rule B: If a word ends in a single consonant with


a single vowel before the consonant and the
accent is on the final syllable, double the final
consonant and add –ing.
– Example: run + ing =running
