Computer Mouse

The document discusses the development of different types of computer mice including mechanical, optical, and laser mice. Mechanical mice used rolling balls while optical mice used light sensors. Laser mice then improved on optical mice by using infrared lasers for even greater precision and the ability to work on any surface.

WIRELESS MOUSE
Operation
Sensor
 Read the horizontal and vertical movement of the mouse through line
 Uses a high-speed, low quality camera to capture thousands of pictures per
second (without storing).
 Compare the new picture with the previous
picture. Depends on frame rate and resolution.
Frame rate: Amount of pictures can be taken in
1 second. (normally 2000-6000 pics/sec)
Resolution (DPI): Amount of dots per inch.
1 dot = 1pixel on the screen
Higher DPI = Faster cursor movement.
Combined with the micro-controller to send
signal to the PC
Pro & Con

Accurate, light,
durable, easy Visible LED light can
maintenance. harm users’ eyes. Need
flat surfaces because the
LED light is not
powerful.
Laser Mouse
Background
- In 2004, the first laser mouse was
developed by Logitech
- It’s a cordless, wireless mouse

Accuracy and Sensitivity
- Laser mice are capable of
extremely precise analysis of
surfaces. Because laser light can
easily penetrate the surface it is
placed on.

- However, if you use a slow-

motion Laser mouse then it will
over-analyze the surface and
lead to unwatched flicker.
-The laser mouse's infrared light makes it easy
for the mouse to operate on any surface,
without needing pads or glass. Laser mouse
uses infrared light (Laser light) with high
frequency, so it can be said that it is 40 times
more sensitive than optical mouse
*Pros:
- High dpi (from 6,000 to 15,000),
very sensitive.
- Deep lighting , exploiting more
details.
- Works well on any surface.

*Cons
- The mouse have problem with
consistency when drag at slow
speed.
- Not ideal for tasks that require high
precision .
- Directly look at the laser ‘s sensor
for a long time can harm our eyes.
- Excessive analysis with slow
motion.
