Hydraulic Engineering: BY: Engr. Bernard T. Thiam, Pce, Mpa

Hydraulic engineering involves the control and management of water resources through conveying liquids through pipes and channels. As a hydraulic engineer, one would plan solutions for water demands and flood control projects. Hydraulic engineering includes hydrostatics, which studies liquids at rest, and hydrodynamics, which studies liquids in motion. Key concepts in hydrostatics include Pascal's law of pressure transmission in fluids and hydrostatic pressure, the force applied by water.

HYDRAULICS ENGINEERING
THE DEFINITION

Hydraulics engineering is a field within the civil engineering discipline that

addresses the control and management of water resources.
HYDRAULICS ENGINEERING
THE DEFINITION

The branch of science and technology concerned with the conveyance

of liquids through pipes and channels, especially as a source of
mechanical force or control.
HYDRAULICS ENGINEERING
THE DEFINITION

The science that deals with the laws governing water or other liquids
in motion and their applications in engineering; practical or applied
hydrodynamics.
HYDRAULICS ENGINEERING
THE DEFINITION

The scientific study of water and other liquids, in particular their behavior
under the influence of mechanical forces and their related uses in
engineering.
HYDRAULICS ENGINEERING
THE ROLE

As an hydraulics engineer, you'll plan and manage the flow and storage
of water. You may find yourself brainstorming solutions to address future
water demands for cities or planning river and coastal flood control
projects.

I. HYDROSTATICS
THE DEFINITION

It is the study of water or liquid when the motion is at rest.

MEASUREMENT OF PRESSURE
PASCAL’S LAW
THE DEFINITION

The law that an external pressure applied to a fluid in a closed

vessel is uniformly transmitted throughout the fluid.
HYDROSTATIC PRESSURE
THE DEFINITION

It is a force applied to a surface resulting from the presence of

water or in terms of engineering, it is called the water
pressure.
