Radar System: Under Supervision DR - Arwa Prepared by Mohamed Osama Moamen Tarek

Radar is a detection system that uses radio waves to determine the range, angle, or velocity of objects such as aircraft, ships, spacecraft, guided missiles, motor vehicles, weather formations, and terrain. It operates on the principle of emitting radio waves and receiving their echoes, similar to how echolocation works. Key components of a radar system include a transmitter that emits radio waves, a receiver to detect echoes, an antenna, and an indicator to interpret signals. Radar has advantages such as all-weather operation over long ranges but disadvantages including inability to distinguish closely spaced targets or recognize their color.

Definition

Radar is a detection system that uses radio waves •

to determine the range, angle, or velocity of objects.
It can be used to detect aircraft, ships, spacecraft,
guided missiles, motor vehicles, weather formations,
and terrain
theory

The electronic principle on which radar operates is very •

similar to the principle of sound-wave reflection. If you
shout in the direction of a sound-reflecting object (like a
rocky canyon or cave), you will hear an echo. If you
know the speed of sound in air, you can then estimate
.the distance and general direction of the object
Construction

Transmitter •
Duplexer •
Receiver •
Radar Antenna •
Indicator •
Advantages
Radar is able to operate day or night, in lightness or •
.darkness over a long-range
Radar is able to operate in all weathers, in fog and rain, it •
.can even penetrate walls or layers of snow
Radar has very broad coverage; it is possible to observe •
.the whole hemisphere
Radar detects and tracks moving objects, a high- •
resolution imaging is possible, that results in an object
.recognition
Disadvantages of Radar

It can not distinguish and resolve multiple targets which are very ➨ •
.close like our eye

.It can not recognize color of the targets➨ •

.It can not see targets which are in the water and are too deep ➨ •

It can not see targets which are placed behind some conducting ➨ •
.sheets

.It is also difficult to recognise short range target types ➨ •

.RADAR has a wider beam range (Over 50ft Diameter)➨ •

errors
.Heading marker alignment-1
.EBL not alignment-2
.Gyro input with error-3
.Improper tuning-4
.Adjustment rain clutter/sec clutter-6
.Own vessel date input error-7
..Range & bearing discrimination-8
.Multiple echo-10
