Pollution

Pollution is the introduction of contaminants into the natural environment that make the land, water, air, or other parts of the environment unsafe or unsuitable for use. Things like light, sound, and temperature can be considered pollution when introduced artificially. There are several types of pollution including air, water, land, sound, light, and space garbage. Pollution can cause health hazards, affect flora and fauna, and be very costly to clean up.

Pollution

Pollution is the process of making land, water, air or other parts of the
environment dirty and not safe or suitable to use. This can be done through the
introduction of a contaminant into a natural environment, but the contaminant
doesn't need to be tangible. Things as simple as light, sound and temperature
can be considered pollutants when introduced artificially into an environment.
Environmental Pollution
• Pollution is addition of harmful / toxic substances added to the
environment . It can creat harm to the health of people or
environment. The substance it self is called as pollutant.
Type of pollution
• 1.Air
• 2. Water
• 3. Land
Other type of Pollution
• Sound
Even though humans can't see or smell noise pollution, it still affects the
environment. Noise pollution happens when the sound coming from planes,
• Light
• Most people can't imagine living without the modern convenience of electric lights. For the
natural world, though, lights have changed the way that days and nights work. Some
consequences of light pollution are:
• Some birds sing at unnatural hours in the presence of artificial light.
• Scientists have determined that long artificial days can affect migration schedules, as they
allow for longer feeding times.

• Space Garbage thrown by the satellights , space crafts

Air Pollution
• By Dust
• By Chemical Gases and exhaust from the vehicles
• By Smoke from burning of farms , fuel in the power plants.
Water Pollution
• Discharge of chemical wastes from industry
• Discharge of waste from the townships ( sawage / sanitary water)
• By throwing of garbage at sea by ships
• By dumping fuel and sludge in water
• By discharging chemical and hazardous waste in water
• Water pollution happens when chemicals or dangerous foreign
substances are introduced to water, including chemicals, sewage,
pesticides and fertilizers from agricultural runoff, or metals like lead or
mercury.
Land Pollution
• By throwing garbage ( It may be having chemical biological ,nuclear
waste.
• By filling the land with various type of chemical and nuclear waste.
• Plastics and associated products. Elctronics compponents
• Land can become polluted by household garbage and by industrial
waste.
Effects of pollution
• Health hazards
• Effecting flora and fauna at sea.
• Cost of cleanup is very high. May go in millions of dollors
Health heazards
• It can cause many diseases related to skin if it come in contact with
skin , including skin cancers
• Air pollutant can cause various types of lungs infections and diseases
such as silicosis and cancers.
• Water pollution is the main cause for diarhoea / dysentery, liver ,
jaundice etc.
• The pollutants are also affecting the animals , live stocks .
• Treatment is some times possible and sometimes the damage is
irreversible.
Laws and panalty
• Law of the land is available for all countries.
• Central and state pollution boards.
• Administration is responsible for implementation so Marpol
regulations for the pollution at sea.
• AERB is responsile for Nuclear pollution related matter.
• Penalties and mentioned in all the Acts.
Financial Losses
• Sea pollution and cleanup cost can be very high and can go in millions
vessels are suppose to have special insurance to take care.

Equipments for pollution control
• At Sea. Vessels are restricted by regulations of Marpol
• Various type of environment friendly chemicals , skimmers, oil booms
and dedicated port crafts are available to take care of pollution at
ports.
• Incinerators.
• Segregation of chemcials and disposal as per SMP.
