VOLTAGE TRANSFORMER TEST


TEST EQUIPMENTS REQUIRED:
1. INSULATION TESTER
2.POLARITY TESTER
3.STEP UP TRANSFORMER
4. MULTIMETER

TEST:

1.INSULATION RESISTANCE TEST


2.POLARITY TEST
3. WINDING RESISTANCE TEST
4.BURDEN TEST
5.RATIO TEST
MECHANICAL CHECK AND VISUAL
INSPECTION
1.Verify nameplate ratings in accordance with the approved
drawings
2.inspect for physical damage/defects and mechanical condition.
3. verify correct connection of transformers with system
requirements
4.verify that adequate clearance exist between primary and
secondary
circuit wiring.
5.verify that all grounding and shorting connection provided
6.verify correct operation of VT draw out mechanism and
grounding
operation.
7.verify correct primary and secondary fuse rating.
INSULATION RESISTANCE TEST:
The voltage shall be applied between

1. PRIMARY TO EARTH ( 5000 V )

2. PRIMARY TO SECONDARY ( 5000V )

3. SECONDARY TO EARTH (500V )

4. CORE TO CORE (500V)

The ambient temperature shall be noted down during


test .
POLARITY TEST:
Polarity test is conform the polarity marking on the VT primary and
secondary and verify it is matching with drawings.
WINDING RESISTANCE TEST :
Winding resistance test is VT verify the VT primary &secondary have
no discontinuity or abnormal in the winding.

secondary winding resistance can be measured by multimeter for


each winding

BURDEN TEST:
Burden test is to ensure the connected burden to VT is with in the
rated
burden ,identified on the name plate .

BURDEN TEST =SECONDARY VOLTAGE X DRAWN LOAD


CURRENT
RATIO TEST:
This test is to ensure the turns ratio of VT all tapes.
