Integrated Lesson Plan for Nursery

Unit: Insects
AIM : To introduce children to the world of
insects
Objectives: To increase their general
knowledge vocabulary and language related
to insects
To count insects which are more in number.
To identify the colors of different insects.

Links to others areas: Numeracy


Literacy

• Students will :
– Engage in various activities with initiative and
confidence.
– Appreciate the uniqueness of each individual.

– Participate in activities to improve motor skills.

• Students will:
– Participate in activities to encourage self expression.
– Use language to bring meaning to what they feel think
and hear.
– Approximate time require: 2-3 weeks
Methodology
• P.K. Testing – Nature walk.
– Take students in the garden for a nature walk.
Make the students talk about what they
observe. Come back in the class and ask
them in group if they can identify the insects.
Day - 1
• Rhymes – 2 little ants were climbing up the tree.
– Incy Wincy spider.

• Make a record chart for what they will


learn about the insects.
• Give word of the day: (Total group activity)
• Material needed : Pencil, word of the day
activity paper, printed vocal words,
pictures of insects.
Day -1
• Procedure :
– Tell students that the “word for the day” is ant.
Students sound out the word, then find the
initial sound of the word they speak out that is
the word of the day. Later they play a game
where each child has to speak few lines about
ant to enhance their verbal skills and with the
help of teacher frame the sentences in
English.
Activity- The Ants Go Marching
Procedure – Give children roll a dice and put the
corresponding number of ants on the paper. The
first one to fill all their page is the winner.
Formative Assessment: Teacher will ask
Questions such as:
1) The difference between the insects and birds.
2) Revision of numbers through activity will be
done.
3) How many legs does an ant have?
4) What does insect like to eat.
Day - 2
• Circle hour : Teacher will introduce an Insect
Memory Game
Procedure: Choose a partner: Cut out insects
cards. Mix the cards up and place them face
down. Take turns finding the matching picture.
• Tell students that the “word for the day” is
caterpillar.
• Story – The hungry caterpillar.
Before reading the story of the Hungry Caterpilar
allow the students to discuss what is happening
on each of the pages. Create a story map.
• Formative Assessment: Activity
Worksheet
Procedure: students use crayons to
colour sequencing activity sheet. They will
paste pictures depicting the events in the
story and place them in correct sequence.
Day- 3
• Activity – Hungry caterpillar cut and
paste integrated work sheet in which
children will be revising insect by naming it
and telling the color of it. What they eat
and later arrange the body parts in
sequence of 0-8.
Day- 4
• Read beginning sound of the word.
• Activity – Caterpillar Missing letter.

Day - 5
Summative Assessment
Worksheet color only insects
2 week
Day 1 : Word of the day – Butterfly
• Circle Hour : Revision of food that caterpillarate
Recap of food theme (Junk and healthy food)
Pairs activity: Students are paired with a buddy. Explain
the students that they must work with their partner to
create a symmetrical butterfly. The first student colors
the one section of the butterfly and the second student.
Colors the other half. Repeat the procedure until the
butterfly is incomplete. Student cut out butterfly and
display in class room.
Formative assessment: Put appropriate wings on each
butterfly.
Day - 2
Introduce word of the day: Lady bug
• Procedure: Narrate integrated story with
lady bird revising numbers and alphabets.
Formative assessment:
• Count and write the number of dots on
each lady bird.
• Ask questions related to story.
• Revise different names of insects seeing
record chart.
Day-3
• Circle Hour: Role Play
• Make story map
• Make chart what they know about lady
bug.
Day - 4
Quiz
Q. Find the picture of an insect that is red has black dots, and eats
harmful insects?
Ans. Lady bug.

Q. Find the picture of an insect that is a pest and carries germs?


Ans. Ant.

Q. Find the picture of an insect that lays its eggs in the water?
Ans. Dragon fly.
Day - 4
• Quiz
Q. Find the picture of an insect that attaches itself to a
study twig and spins a caccon?
Ans. Butterfly.

Q. Find the picture of an insect that lives and works in a


hive?
Ans. Bee.
Day - 5
Assessment.
• Worksheet – Complete insects according book.
• Grades:
A1 – Student answers all questions correctly.
A – Student answers 5 questions correctly.
B- Student answers4 questions correctly.
C-Student answers 2-3 questions correctly.
D-Student answers 0-1 questions correctly.
