Synopsis of Course
• This course is introduced to provide students with
the skill necessary to undertake original research
project and to being able to communicate their
project in both writing and oral skills. This course
may expose student’s creativity in designing a
research. The topic of the research project or special
topics will be determined in consultation with the
supervisor.
Objectives
• Expose students with scientific writing,
research activity, teamwork and problem-
solving.
• Train students to conduct research within
given timeframe either individually or in the
group.
• Guide students on how to present and defend
their research.

What is a research proposal?
• A research proposal sets out the broad topic you
would like to research (substance).

– What the research would set out to achieve (aims and


objectives)?
– How you would go about researching it (methodology)?
– How you would undertake it within the time available
(outline plan)?
– What the results might be in relation to knowledge and
understanding in the subject (potential outcomes).
Purpose of a Research Proposal
• Convince related parties that you..
– have a worthwhile research project
– you have the competence
– you the work-plan to complete it.

• To sell your idea to the funding agency.
