Grade 8 (Common Monomial Factoring-2nd Week) Edited

- Factoring is a mathematical process that breaks down numbers into their prime factors. - Factoring polynomials rewrites equations into simpler forms and yields useful information by applying factoring principles. - The greatest common factor method is used to factor polynomials by finding the largest common factor of all terms and dividing each term by the greatest common factor. - Factoring polynomials has real-life applications such as dividing items equally, making financial calculations, comparing prices, telling time, and making travel calculations.

- is a common mathematical process used

to break down the factors, or numbers,

that multiply together to form another
number.
- some number share multiple factors.
Why do we need
to factor
polynomials?
- is an important process that helps us understand
more about our equations.
- we rewrite our polynomials in a simpler forms, and
when we apply the principles of factoring to
equations,we yield a lot of useful information.
- factor polynomial using the
greatest common factor .
- is the reverse of multiplying a
monomial by a polynomial.

Steps in factoring Polynomials
through common monomial
factoring
1. Find the greatest common factor or GCF of the
numerical coefficients.
2. Check the variable which appears in all the terms. If
a variable appears in all the terms, choose the lowest
degree for each variable.
3. Divide each term by the greatest common factor.
4. Write the factored form (the product of the GCF and
the resulting expression after dividing each term by the
GCF.

We will check your answer on the consultation day.
