6G Technology

6G is the planned successor to 5G mobile networks and is expected to launch commercially in 2030. It will likely provide data rates of around 95 Gbit/s, over 100 times faster than 5G. While research and development on 6G technologies won't begin in earnest until 2020, several companies like Nokia, Ericsson, Huawei, Samsung, and LG have expressed interest, as have countries like China, South Korea, Japan, Finland, and the United States. 6G is expected to support capabilities like terabit per second speeds, improved artificial intelligence, and new immersive technologies.

What is 6G Technology
▫ In telecommunications, 6G will be the sixth generation
standard for wireless communications technologies
supporting cellular data networks.

▫ It is the planned successor to 5G and will likely be

significantly faster, at speeds of ~95 Gbit/s.

3
When to expect 6G
▫ 6G is expected to launch commercially in 2030. 6G is
being developed in response to the increasingly
distributed radio access network (RAN)

▫ While some early discussions have taken place to

define 6G, research and development (R&D) activities
will start in earnest in 2020.

4
What company has 6g technology
▫ Like its predecessors, 6G networks will be broadband
cellular networks, in which the service area is divided
into small geographical areas called cells. Several
companies (i.e. Nokia, Ericsson, Huawei, Samsung,
LG, Apple) have shown interest in 6G. China, South
Korea and Japan also reportedly have interest.

5
ADVANTAGES OF 6G
▫ 6G is expected to support data rates of 1 terabyte per second (Tbps).

▫ This level of capacity and latency will be unprecedented and will extend
the performance of 5G applications along with expanding the scope of
capabilities in support of increasingly new and innovative applications
across the realms of wireless connectivity, cognition, sensing and
imaging.

▫ 6G's higher frequencies will enable much faster sampling rates in

addition to providing significantly better throughput and higher data
rates.
6
POSSIBLE CAPABILITIES OF 6G
▫ 1 Tb/s speeds
▫ Improved Artificial Intelligence
▫ Immersive Technologies (Implants, sensory inputs)

7
WHAT COUNTRIES WORKING ON
6G
▫ University of Oulu in Finland
▫ South Korea Electronics
▫ Ministry of Industry and Information Technology in
China
▫ United States
