Popular music from the 1940s to today encompasses many genres that have wide appeal such as rock, pop, soul, country, and alternative rock. Some of the most influential artists who helped define different eras include Elvis Presley and The Beatles in the 1950s, James Brown and The Beach Boys in the 1960s, Bee Gees and Michael Jackson in the 1970s, Bruce Springsteen and Bon Jovi in the 1980s, Nirvana and Weezer in the 1990s, and Green Day, Linkin Park, and Coldplay in the 2000s. Popular music styles have evolved significantly over the decades but continue to appeal widely to audiences of all ages.

• Rock N’ Roll music is popular music which
developed in the 1940s and 1950s.
• Early Rock N’ Roll combined Blues,
Country, Jazz and Gospel Music.
• The early name for Rock N’ Roll was
Rockabilly.
