IMPORTANCE
 Experienced in WWII and the frozen hell of Korea hammered
home the importance of increased firepower without
sacrificing range, reliability and power.
 Flawed and designed for a war with the Soviet Union in
Europe that never came, the M14 with its large 7.62 mm
round was America’s last full-power, or “battle rifle”, before
the age of “assault rifles,” such as the American M16 and
Soviet AK-47.
INTRODUCTION
The M14 rifle, officially the United States Rifle, Caliber 7.62 mm,
M14, is an American select-fire battle rifle that fires 7.62x51mm
NATO (.308 in) ammunition. It became the standard-issue rifle  for
the U.S Military in 1959 replacing the  M1 Garand rifle in the U.S.
Army by 1958 and the U.S. Marine Corps by 1965 until being
replaced by the M16 Rifle beginning in 1968. The M14 was used by
U.S. Army, Navy, and Marine Corps for basic and advanced
individual training (AIT) from the mid-1960s to the early 1970s. The
M14 was the last American battle rifle issued in quantity to U.S.
military personnel.

SUMMARY OF RECORD FIRE
EXERCISE
NOTE: 1yd is equal to
0.91mApplications:
a. To describe a shot group. The
statement “My rifle shoots
0.25MOA at 100yd” means that the shot
group capacity of that rifle is 0.25in
at 100m.

b. To determine the value of click. Every

“click” of the M14 Rifle’s
elevation knob is equal to 1MOA. This
means that the value of a “click” for
elevation changes is approximately 1inch
at 100yd, 2inches at 200yd.
NOTE: Every grid
is 1.4cm x 1.4cm. To
shift the shot group
from 1 grid line to
another grid line
adjusts two clicks.
