Making IT Work for You ~ Using E-Books
• Cloud printers
• Connected to the Internet , provide printing services to others.
• Google Cloud Print is a service that supports cloud printing.
• Thermal printers
• Use heat elements (heated pins) to produce images on heat-sensitive
paper.
• Used to print receipts
Other Printers
• Plotters
• Special-purpose printers for producing a wide range of specialized output.
• Maps, images, and architectural and engineering drawings.
• Used by graphic artists, engineers, and architects to print out designs,
sketches, and drawings.
Environmental Tips
• Headsets
• Combine a microphone and headphones
• Multifunctional devices (MFD)
• Cost efficient but lower quality – Scanner, Printer, Copy, Fax
• Unreliable - problems with one part, entire device inoperable
• Eg: All-in-one printers
• Telephones
• Receive, send voice communication
• Voice-over IP (VoIP) service support voice over internet
• Telephony/Internet telephony
• Hangouts - ?
• Face Time - ?
• Skype - Microsoft
Drones and Robots
• Drones or unmanned aerial vehicles (UAV)
• Take input from a controller and send back video and
sound to the user
• Very cost effective now, faster, smarter, high-tech toy
• Amateur cinematographers, civil engineers.
• Robots
• Use microphones, cameras and other sensors as input
• Output is dependent on the use for the robot
• Exploring damaged nuclear reactors
• Taking a photo.
• Home vacuuming floors
• In a factory assembling cars
• Hospitals assisting in surgery
Virtual Reality
• Virtual Reality
• An artificial reality created in 3D by computers for
a virtual/immersive experience
• Specialized hardware to collect data that work
with software
• Headgear
• Earphone, 3D stereoscopic screens
• Gloves
• Sensors to detect hand movement
• Automobile manufacturing
• High-end video games
• Immersive movies
