What is a parallel text?

 It is a learning constructive strategy that can be


useful to teachers and students.
 It is a tool that helps as metacognitive strategy
and to construct knowledge.
What is a parallel text?
 The reading of a text could be
compared to a dialogue.
 The writer makes a proposal of
how he/she sees the world.
 The reader elaborates a parallel
text in which he stamps his
reactions.
 The reading becomes a
dialogue!
 The reader constructs his own
interpretation of the text.

 It is a material elaborated in based on the analysis of a text
and group work.
 It is a space for personal expression, the reelaboration of a
content, its application…
 It is a product that allows people to appropriate the content
and to give it a personal sense.
 Two criteria: Flexibility and Creativity.

It could include:
 Your own experience in

relation to the theme


 Personal reflections

 Key ideas, examples from

the text or meetings.


 Results of exercises

 Articles, news, anecdotes,

 Divide the page in two columns; in the
left column you should write the
concepts, theories, key ideas from the
topic that you are reading, studying,
listening or discussing.
 In the right column you should write
your own interpretations, examples,
related ideas, experiences, questions,
reflections, possible applications, and
others.
 In the right column, you
can also write: comments,
questions, ironies,
examples, and others.
 Both columns can be
illustrated with maps,
charts, drawings, and
others.
