PHILOSOPHY OF TIME
• Time waits for none
• Time is money
• Better three hours too soon than a minute late
• Lost time never found again
• Time is most valuable thing a man can spend
• Time is the wisest counselor of all
WHAT IS MANAGEMENT
Meaning of word manage given in English dictionary :
To be in charge of ,administer , succeed in doing , control ,handle ,cope
with, conduct , carry on , persuade
Management means administration, skillful use of means
WHAT IS TIME MANAGEMENT
• Time management is the process of planning and exercising conscious control of specific
activities , especially to increase effectiveness, efficiency and productivity
• Time and tide waits for none : perishable
• Effective planning
• Setting goals and objectives
• Setting deadlines
• Delegation of responsibilities
• Spending right time on right activity
• Be organized
• Do not misuse time
• Be focussed
MANAGING TIME EFFECTIVELY
• Setting goals correctly , setting goals that are achievable and
measurable
• Prioritizing wisely ,doing the tasks based on importance and urgency

• Prioritize tasks
• Eliminate distraction(social media sites ,smartphones , some co-

TIME MANAGEMENT FOR STUDENTS
• Make a schedule
• Use an agenda
• Elimination of distractions(cell phones , social media)
• Set goals for each day
• Work on assignment early
• Make a Project Plan

• Sleep for eight hours of sleep

PRACTICING TIME MANAGEMENT
• Practice of time management will vary from position to position-as a civil
servant whether one is Assistant Collector , Sub-Collector, ADM , Project
Director , Collector, Commissioner or Member of Board of Revenue . While
in Secretariat post can be Under Secretary ,Deputy Secretary, Joint
Secretary, Additional Secretary , Secretary ,Additional Chief Secretary and
Chief Secretary . While in PSU it will be different from Factory Manager ,
Chief Executive(Sugar factory ,IPICOL)

• In private sector, time managing will be different from public sector
• Representatives of people(MLAs, MPs, MLCs, Chairman Zilla Parishad,
Panchayat Samity and Sarpanch) and Minister
COMMON PRACTICE
• Diary :Government Diary is designed to record what to do according
to hours
• Note Book
• Steno , private secretary or administrative assistant reminds one of
next appointment
• Phone calls-some are routed through steno or private secretary-RAX
• TV in office
• Meeting people-public relations
• Conduct of interview
BALANCING OF TIME
• Time for self(daily routine), for family , reading(newspapers,
journals ,magazines , books) and study and for office , for business
,for friends
• Sleep, exercise , breakfast, lunch and dinner
• Entertainment-cinema , circus, theatre, dance , ballet ,Yatra ,T V shows
• Social obligations- marriage , thread ceremony, family picnics, official
parties
• All work no play makes Jack a dull boy
DISRUPTION,DISTURBANCE&
DISLOCATION
• Phone, smart phone , cell phone , noise of procession ,bands
,loudspeakers ,power failure
• Friends and relatives –no respect for other people’s time
• Emergency-medical condition , fire or storm
DIFFERENT APPROACH FOR
DIFFERENT SITUATION
• Young ,middle aged , elderly, senior citizens and retirees
• Normal time
• During pandemic
• Other situations like war,
• Use of technology
CONCLUSIONS
• Time is perishable , irretrievable and precious
• Efficient use of resource
• Planning, prioritizing, and elimination of non-essential

• Different situation will demand different approach
