Mr. Sreenivasa M B

This document summarizes an internship seminar on the analysis and design of a G+3 residential building. The internship involved modeling the building in ETABS, applying loads according to Indian codes, and analyzing and designing the structural components. Key steps included modeling the beams, columns, slabs, and foundations; applying dead, live, and super dead loads; generating bending moment, shear force, and axial force diagrams; and detailing the reinforcement according to code provisions. The intern concluded that the structural design and analysis gave practical experience with software and applying codes, and that the building's structural components were adequately sized and detailed to satisfy serviceability criteria.

Introduction

 A structure is a series of connected, interrelated elements that form

together a system that can resist a series of external load effects applied to
it.
 It also includes its own self weight ,and provide adequate rigidity.
 A structure is usually made up of beams, columns, slabs, walls footing,
stairs.
 The basic objective in structural analysis and design is to produce a
structure capable of resisting all applied loads without failure during its
intended life.

Load application

 Dead load=1 (Modeling include its own weight)

 Live load =2 (As per IS:875-1987(Part 2))
 Super dead load = Floor finish
 = 1 kN/m²
 Main wall load - 0.23x (3.2-0.45)x18 =11.3kN/m
 Parapet wall load - 0.2x1x18= 3.6kN/m

Conclusion

 Internship program gave us the practical knowledge.

 The structural components are checked to satisfy the serviceability criteria
and hence provided dimension of all structural components are adequate.
 The detailing of reinforcement is made as per IS-code provision which
provides ductility to the structure and hence better performance.
 The current day Software Packages like AUTOCAD and ETABS are
practically applicable in the in-situ work.
