Massive Mimo With Mmse Processing and Centralized Implementation

This document summarizes a student project on implementing massive MIMO with MMSE processing and centralized implementation. The project aims to address problems like noise, interference, fading, and inter-symbol interference in multi-cell multi-user MIMO-OFDM systems using H-infinity channel estimation. The proposed system uses a centralized cell-free network approach with MMSE processing to reduce interference and achieve high signal-to-noise ratio with low complexity. Results show that the cell-free approach performs better than the cellular approach for all users.

Abstract

• The system model considers  imperfect channel estimation,

pilot contamination(PC), and multicarrier and multipath
channels.
• The analytical expressions are presented on the mean square
error(MSE) of two classical channel estimation algorithms.
• Least Squares(LS) and MMSE.
• Then, a simple H-infinity channel estimation approach is
proposed to have good suppression to PC.
Introduction
• Generally communications based on two types
1.SISO
2.MIMO
• Mainly this concept investigates the uplink
transmission in multi-cell multi-user along MIMO
with OFDM systems.
• In this process mainly three problems are occurred
1.Noise
2.Interference (or) Fading
3.ISI (or)ICI

• Point-to-Point MIMO and Multi User MIMO.

Existing system

PILOT CONTAMINATION :

• To minimize the over head of the channel Estimation.

• It leads to the inter-user-interference in the channel
Estimation.
Dis Advantages of Existing System
• Channel estimation is not calculate.
• Signal phase shift is not calculate.
• Data diverting problems.
Implementing system
H-Infinity Channel Estimation:

• OFDM method helps to estimate the channel noise.

• It can achieve an acceptable estimation performance
without accurate knowledge of the statistical
information.
• It is the ratio b/w the whole Channel Estimation Error
to the Noise/Interference.
Implementing system Block diagram
Centralized cell free network:
Multi cell-Multi user
• A multi cell-multi user massive MIMO system
composed of Hexagonal cells and each cell is
consisted of BS with Antennas.

• Mainly its purpose is to reduce the Interference b/w

pilot sequences of users from different cells.
Four levels of Receiver co-operation:
• Fully centralized processing
• Local processing & Large-scale Fading Decoding
• Local processing & Simple Centralized Decoding
• Small Cell Network
Channel Interpolation :
• Channel Interpolation mainly depends on
1.CDF
2.Spectral Efficiency

• These parameters are used to estimate the

Interpolation in channel.
• Channel State Information (CSI) refers to known
channel properties of a communication link.

• There are basically two levels of CSI namely

1.Instantaneous CSI
2.Statistical CSI
• H-Infinity loop-shaping is a design methodology in
modern control theory.

• H-Infinity optimization techniques is to achieve

controllers, whose stability and performance
properties hold good in spite of bounded differences.

• The Resulting “Loop Shape” and “Robustification”

through optimization.
• H-Infinity loop shaping deployed in industry with the
following factors:

1.Easy to implement
2.Plug and Play

• The response around unity-gain crossover is adjusted

to maximize the systems stability margin.
Advantages
• To reduce the error value.
• To reduce the Fading Effect on OFDM.
• High signal to noise ratio.
• Low complexity.
• Efficiency of Energy is moderate.
Applications
• Mobile based communication system.
• High speed data transmission.
• Television and Antenna communication
systems.
Software Tools

• Operating system : Windows XP/7.

• Coding Language : MATLAB
• Tool : MATLAB R 2009,7.10v
Results and Discussions
• Comparison of Cellular mMIMO and Cell-free
mMIMO when using MMSE or L-MMSE
combining ,observe the Fig(a) &Fig(b).
• User Euipments with good channel conditions
get better performance with these methods.
• Cell-Free mMIMO is better than Cellular
mMIMO for every User Euipment.

Fig (b): Cell-free with L = 100, N = 4

with Cell-free (L = 400, N = 1)

and CPU
Conclusion
• By applying H-Infinity channel estimation technique we
can conclude that,
1.High rate Data Transmission
2.less Interference and Distortion
3. MMSE processing not only maximizes
the SE and largely reduces the Fronthaul
signalling.
4. Local MMSE processing can roughly
double the SE per UE.
Future scope

• In the future scope of Massive MIMO technology is a

compotent solution that significantly improves System
capacity,Signal coverage and Spectral efficiency by
configuring hundreds of Antenna Elements(AP) at the
BS to shape effective Beamforming.
