Pipeline Defect Repair Methods

This document discusses various methods for repairing pipeline defects, including: 1. Using a sleeve of the same grade and wall thickness as the pipe to repair leaks and non-leaking defects through fillet or butt welding. 2. Using composite materials like composite sleeves or wraps to repair corrosion defects. These involve wrapping fiberglass laminate with adhesive around the defect. 3. Installing leak clamps or bridging sleeves to temporarily repair buckled pipes until a section can be replaced. 4. Half sleeves or saddles to repair defects in a minimally invasive way. 5. Coating rehabilitation techniques like applying cold tapes or polyurethane to protect the pipe surface.

Defect Repair By Type B Sleeve

Select the sleeve of same grade

and wall thickness as that of pipe
else match the strength
Fillet Weld

Sleeve Butt Weld

Carrier Pipe

 Can be used for leaking as well as non leaking defects

 It’s a pressure containing sleeve so welding should be done
under strict quality control
 It takes both longitudinal and circumferential loads
