Lesson 2 - Geometric Sequence and Series
Lesson 2 - Geometric Sequence and Series
Dear God,
May we through your blessings, add purity
to the world, subtract evil from our lives,
multiply the good news of your son, and
divide your gifts and share them with others.
Amen.

Geometric Sequence
It is a sequence of numbers where each term after the first is
found by multiplying the previous one by a fixed, non-zero
number called the common ratio.
𝑎 2 current term 4
𝑟=
𝑎1
¿ ¿ =¿
previous term 2 2
Lesson Proper
Let us determine the common ratio and the next term in the
following sequences.
𝐚𝟓 =𝟖𝟏 × 𝟑=𝟐𝟒𝟑
𝐚𝟓 =− 𝟐𝟓𝟎 × ( − 𝟓 ) =𝟐 , 𝟒𝟑𝟏 ,𝟐𝟓𝟎
Lesson Proper
To calculate for any term within a sequence:

Geometric Means
The geometric mean between any two positive terms of a geometric
sequence is given by the square root of their product.
𝐱=√(𝟓)(𝟏𝟐𝟓) 𝐚𝟏 =𝟓
𝐚𝟑 =𝟏𝟐𝟓
𝐧=𝟑
¿ √ 𝟔𝟐𝟓 𝐚 𝐧=𝐚 𝟏 ⋅ 𝐫 𝐧 −𝟏
𝟑 −𝟏

𝟏𝟐𝟓=𝟓⋅𝟐 𝐫
𝟓= 𝐫
𝐚𝟐 =𝟐𝟓
Lesson Proper
Insert three geometric means between 2 and 2592.
𝐱=√ ( 𝟐)(𝟐𝟓𝟗𝟓) ¿ √ 𝟓𝟏𝟖𝟒 ¿ 𝟕𝟐
𝐱=√ ( 𝟐)(𝟕𝟐) ¿ √ 𝟏𝟒𝟒 ¿ 𝟏𝟐
𝐧 −𝟏
𝐚𝟏 =𝟐
𝐚
𝐧 =𝐚 𝟏 ⋅ 𝐫

𝐱=√ ( 𝟐)(𝟏𝟔𝟐) ¿ √ 𝟑𝟐 𝟒 ¿ 𝟏𝟖
𝐱=√ ( 𝟐)(𝟏𝟖) ¿ √ 𝟑𝟔 ¿ 𝟔
