Breakout Session in Teaching TLE (AFA)

This document discusses approaches to teaching in the "new normal" under the Enhanced Basic Education Act of 2013 in the Philippines. It outlines four key approaches: constructive, integrative, inquiry-based, and reflective. The constructive approach involves active student involvement in meaning and knowledge construction. The integrative approach uses prior knowledge to support new learning. Inquiry-based learning encourages student exploration rather than passive learning. Reflective practice involves learning from experience to gain new self-insights. Examples of tasks for each approach are provided. The document encourages collaboration between instructional leaders and teachers to continue providing quality education during difficult times.

TEACHING EPP/TVL IN

THE NEW NORMAL

BYRON C. DIZON
Facilitator/SFIS
RA 10533 ,“Enhanced Basic Education Act
of 2013”, an act enhancing the Philippine
Basic Education System by strengthening
curriculum and increasing the number of
years for Basic Education, presents different
approaches that could be utilized in
different subjects most especially in T.L.E.
These are:
1.Constructive Approach
2.Integrative approach
3. Inquiry-based approach
4. Reflective approach.
Constructivist approach in teaching is based
on the belief that learning occurs
as learners are actively involved in a process
of meaning and knowledge construction
rather than passively receiving information.
Constructivist teaching fosters critical
thinking and creates motivate and
independent learners.

example of Constructive Learning
Task
Integrative learning is
an approach where the learner brings
together prior knowledge and experiences
to support new knowledge and
experiences. By doing this, learners
draw on their skills and apply them to
new experiences at a more complex
level.
Show and Tell ( s an
example of Integrative
Learning)
Inquiry-based learning is an approach
to learning that emphasizes the
student’s role in the learning process.
Rather than the teacher telling students
what they need to know, students are
encouraged to explore the material, ask
questions, and share ideas.
Inquiry-based learning uses different
approaches to learning, including small-
group discussion and guided learning.
Instead of memorizing facts and material,
students learn by doing. This allows them
to build knowledge through
exploration, experience, and
discussion.
Just like experiential learning, inquiry-
based learning actively engages students
in the learning process. Students aren’t
just hearing or writing what they are
learning. Instead, students get the chance
to explore a topic more deeply and learn
from their own first-hand experiences.
Transplanting of
Seedlings ( As an
example of experiential
task)
Reflective practice in
teaching is ‘learning through
and from experience towards
gaining new insights of self
and practice’ (Finlay, 2008).
Some points of consideration in
the reflection process might be
what is currently being applied,
why is it being applied and how
well learners are learning and
improving.
Asking Students to Engage
in Reflective Journaling is
one of the best examples
of reflective learning task
that the teachers may use.
My dear colleagues in San Mariano I District I
feel right now the hardship of your battle in
educating the young ones. But always remember,
when all the instructional leaders will work as one,
the teachers will be guided to the right zone for
teaching improvement and when all the teachers
will club together, nothing can stop them now to
make learning continues with desired outcome,
that is give quality education to the young ones.
THANK YOU FOR LISTENING.
