II Timothy 2: “An athlete is not crowned unless he competes according to the rule.”

1. The Golden Rule- You are expected to do nothing that will reflect a bad image on
yourself, your teammates, your coaching staff, or your school. DO RIGHT!!!
2. We will follow the school district’s handbook on policies dealing with drugs, tobacco and
alcohol. You will run until Coach Jackson thinks you are prepared to make better choices,
and you still may not play.
3. Social media – count to ten before you hit send!

1. We coach our players like they are our sons.
2. We may coach hard, aggressive and loud but we also try to encourage and be positive.
3. Football is a tough, aggressive, disciplined and emotional game – and that is the way we coach.
4. We believe, stress and teach these priorities.
• God and Family first
• School second
• Athletics third
5. We require your child’s commitment to the team.
6. We may require your child to be more disciplined than you do.
7. We don’t play athletes to make them happy. Athletes are played because: ( see “why don’t I play”)
• Seniority is earned not granted.
8. Parent’s influence or position makes no difference.
9. Best college potential position only if it is best for our team.
10. The team comes first, we have no stars.
11. Evaluation of your child is 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
12. We have an open door policy, on all issues except playing time ( with parents). I will talk to the players
about playing time. Every player has a right to approach any coach OFF the field without fear of punishment.
15. Here are the proper steps to address playing time:
• Talk to your son.
• Have your son talk to his position coach.
• Have your son talk to me “the head coach”.
• If your son still does not understand his role on the team, I will meet with the parents and the player.
• We will meet with the parents and kid playing in front of your son and you can tell them why your son
should play instead of their son.
16. Teach your son how to handle adversity! Everyone gets knocked down, the question is; are you man enough to get
back up?
1. Be positive with your son. Let him Know he is accomplishing something by simply being a part of this team.

2. If your son is not a starter, assure him that his role is extremely important to this team.

3. Support your son’s coaches. They represent the authority directing this team. When the parents support the coaches,
the players will follow suit.

4. Encourage your son to follow team rules concerning drinking, curfews, discipline in the classroom, etc. We as coaches
must expect more from our athletes than we do the average student in the halls. The more sacrifices he makes for the
team, the more that team means to him.

5. Parents must be team players also. Be careful not to develop envy toward other players. Parent jealousy can and will
devastate a team.

6. Please respect the profession of coaching. Your son’s coaches are professionals and are with you son virtually 12
months a year. They know what your son is capable of achieving. You may want to question a coach’s decision,
but to publicly slander judgments made by the coaches is detrimental to the team.

7. Be an enthusiastic Buffalo fan. Always display our pride with class. We will win with class and if we lose,
we will lose with class.

8. Expect your son to take responsibility for his and his team’s actions. Give him credit when things go well. But, hold
him responsible when mistakes are made. We can learn from our mistakes only when we are held responsible.

9. Strive to understand the importance of the “team”. You the “parent” are a vital part of this team. When the coaches,
players and parents are all believing in each other and supporting each other, all things are possible.
1. Am I productive in practice and games?
2. Do I compete everyday at practice?
3. Do I make my teammates better?
4. Am I willing to sacrifice my individual goals for the team?
5. Can I help the team more than the person in front of me?
6. Do I take care of things off the field so we can trust you?
7. Have I proven the coaches can count on me in the classroom?
8. Do I trust the coaches? Do I trust my teammates?
9. Do I work hard all the time, weight room, conditioning and practice?
10. Do I PROTECT this program?
11. Can I recognize my weakness and work on them to get better?
12. Do I know my plays?
13. Am I coachable?
14. Do I accept criticism that is meant to make me better?
15. Am I always on time?
16. Do I handle myself well when things don’t go my way?
17. Do I handle myself well when things DO go my way?
