The Hyperloop is a proposed mode of passenger and freight transportation that would transport people at airline speeds but would be safer, faster, cheaper, and more convenient than existing surface transportation options. It involves placing passengers or cargo in small pods that travel at both low pressures and high speeds through a tube elevated above the ground on pylons. The pods float on a thin film of air and are accelerated using linear induction motors and decelerated using regenerative braking.
