Worshipping God

Again
(Keys to Refocusing the Object
and Subject of our Worship)
The Source of Idolatry
• When more worth is placed
on the means than on the
"end" then the means become
an idol
• Any other worship other than
God is idolatry
God detest idolatry
• Idolatry- making anything
more "worthy" than God"
Psalm 78:58
They angered the Lord with
their high places; they aroused
his jealousy with their idols"
Isaiah 44:9
"All who make idols are nothing
and the things they treasure are
worthless"
• 1 John 5:21
• "Dear children, keep
yourselves from idols"
Creation vs. Creator
• When the creation becomes more
important than the creator the result
is misplaced worship
• The greatest temptation in human
experience is the elevation of,
distractions by and pre-occupation
with the creation more than the
creator
Exodus 20:7-8
"You shall not make for yourselves an
idol in the form of anything in heaven
above or on earth beneath or in the
waters below. You shall not bow down
to them for I the Lord am a jealous
God punishing the children for the sins
of their fathers to the third and fourth
generation of those who hate me"
Worship- putting worth on someone
- to esteem with worth
- to honor
- to place highest value
- to bow down/to bend
yourself toward something
- to acknowledge in all
things
- perpetual gratitude
- to prostrate yourself
- to mingle
- to ascribe credit for all
things
- to surrender yourself
- to blow a kiss
Psalm 96:8
Ascribe to the LORD the glory
due his name, bring an offering
and come into his courts

Praise- describing God

Worship- Ascribing to God

• Worship is what God receives

and allows and accept
• Anyone whom you ascribe
anything on earth to and they
receive it and allowed it and
accept it they are competing
with God
• Its okay for people to praise you
but don’t receive it, keep passing it
on because the power flow is tied to
credit transfer
• The danger of success is you
receiving the credit and allowing
others to give it to you and
accepting it as if you deserve it
1 Samuel 17:45

Then David said to the
Philistine, “You come to me with a
sword, with a spear, and with a
javelin. But I come to you in the
name of the LORD of hosts, the
God of the armies of Israel, whom
you have defied.
Principles of Worship
1.Worship is only possible through the
knowledge of the one being worshipped
2.You cannot worship beyond what you
know about the person
- we worship what we know
3.God allows us to go through difficulty so
that we can have more material to worship
him
Psalm 96:8
Sing to the Lord a new
song, sing to the Lord all
the earth
4. Worship is only reserve for
the Lord
Psalm 24:1
The earth is the Lords, and
everything in it, the world and
all who live in it
5. Worship is the acknowledgement and
ascribing of all things to the source
Lord- legitimate owner and mighty
controller
6. Worship is a result of a revelation of the
source of creation
- true worship does not need to be
generated
7. Worship is a natural response to an
understanding of the source of all things
8. Worship is the total transfer of credit
to the supreme source of all things
9. Worship must be a result of whatever
he ask for, including yourself
10. Worship is surrender to the
LORDSHIP/OWNERSHIP of
everything
-when you put all your authority at
his feet, that’s worship
Matthew 10:23

And Jesus, looking around,

said to His disciples, “How

hard it will be for those who
are wealthy to enter the
kingdom of God!”
11. We come to worship, ready to give
all
Exodus 10:26

Our livestock too must go with us; not
a hoof is to be left behind. We have to
use some of them in worshiping
the LORD our God, and until we get
there we will not know what we are to
use to worship the LORD.”
The Opposite of Worship
1.Lack of gratitude
2.Self-praise
3.Self-credit
4.Selfish pride

Only the OWNER deserves worship

-when anyone wants to compete with God in
your life, they are an idol!
Matthew 4:8-10

Again, the devil took him to a very high
mountain and showed him all the
kingdoms of the world and their
splendor.  “All this I will give you,” he
said, “if you will bow down and worship
me.”

Jesus said to him, “Away from me,
Satan! For it is written: ‘Worship the
Lord your God, and serve him only.
 Luke 12:15-21

Then he said to them, “Watch out! Be on

your guard against all kinds of greed; life
does not consist in an abundance of
possessions.”

And he told them this parable: “The
ground of a certain rich man yielded an
abundant harvest.  He thought to himself,
‘What shall I do? I have no place to store
my crops.’
 Luke 12:15-21

“Then he said, ‘This is what I’ll do. I will tear

down my barns and build bigger ones, and there
I will store my surplus grain. And I’ll say to
myself, “You have plenty of grain laid up for
many years. Take life easy; eat, drink and be
merry.”’

“But God said to him, ‘You fool! This very night
your life will be demanded from you. Then who
will get what you have prepared for yourself?’
“This is how it will be
21

with whoever stores up

things for themselves but
is not rich toward God.”
Job Understood Worship
Job 1:20-21
At this, Job got up and tore his robe and
shaved his head. Then he fell to the ground in
worship  and said:
“Naked I came from my mother’s womb,
    and naked I will depart.
The LORD gave and the LORD has taken
away;
may the name of the LORD be praised.”
Psalm 103:2
"Bless the LORD, O my
soul, and do not forget
all his benefits"
Exodus 23:25
So you shall worship the LORD
your God, and He will bless your
bread and your water. And I will
take away sickness from among
you. There will be no miscarriage
or infertility in your land and I will
give you long, full lives
