Importance of Presentation skills

❏ Effective communication skills are a valuable life skill, which will help you
in your further education and in your future careers. Here are our top reasons
why public speaking courses can do nothing but good to help
you on your journey to success.

❏ Presentations are a fantastic way to contribute to your English language

learning experience. They enable you to practice all language areas (such as
vocabulary, phonology and grammar) and skills (speaking, reading, writing and
listening).

❏ Unsurprisingly, public speaking classes may make you feel nervous! Statistic
Brain found a whopping 74% of people feel nervous speaking in front of others.
So presentation is the best way to share your ideas and thoughts among the
audience
STAGES OF PRESENTATION

● Prepare

The first step in making a successful presentation is to

prepare. Think carefully the material to be covered and
tank the different topics in order of priority. Anticipate the
questions that may be asked and prepare their answer,
keep in mind the

knowledge and level expectation, size, etc.of the

people before whom the presentation is to be made.

Structure
Once the contents of the presentation are decided, develop a structure so that you can
speak coherently. Your presentation may be structured as follows:
(a) Introduction: Your introduction, opening courtesies, purpose and outline of the
presentation.
(b) Main body: Main points in the logical order and supporting facts.
(c) Conclusion: Summarise the maine points and thank the audience.
(d) Questions: Answer the Question if any.
A suggested break up in the terms of time is as follows:
Introduction(opening):10-20 percent
Main body: 60-80 percent
Closing(Conclusion and questions): 10-20 percent
Visual Aids:
Visual aids make a presentation interesting and impressive. But they
must be relevant to the subject. A careless design or use of a slide
can obstruct the presentation. Keep it short and simple. It is
meaningless to present a very complicated chat that someone sitting
in the last row can barely see and understand. Five Lines per visual
aids and five words per line may be good. Some of the visual aids
often used in presentations are as follows:
(a) Overhead Projector
(b) 35mm slides
(c) Video and Film
(d) Computer projection- Powerpoint application such as Excel.
(e) Flip chart or blackboard- Scratch-pad to elaborate a point.
Making the presentation:

In order to make a really effective presentation, a lively and

enthusiastic talk is necessary. Clear speech, logical order of points,
timely use of visuals and timely closing are helpful.
The person making the presentation has to develop the various skills.
Essentially he should be a good speaker. He should be able to express
himself clearly and forcefully. Second, he needs to be well-versed in
using various types of audio visual aids.
Third, he should synchronize his narration with the visual message.
Fourth, the presentation material should be tailored to suit the
requirements of the audience to whom the presentation is made.
