Door Lock System

This document outlines a minor project presentation on an electronic door lock system. It discusses introducing a password-protected electronic door lock to improve on basic mechanical locks. The project will use a microcontroller, keypad, LCD, relays and other components. It provides an introduction, literature review, objectives, methodology, work plan, components list and conclusions. The team aims to design a functional prototype electronic door lock controlled via password entry.

INTRODUCTION
 A door lock system enables us to the locking /unlocking
of the door using a specified password. It helps in
ensuring the security of the particular places like home,
office, lockers etc. Alert can be provided when entered
the wrong password that enhances the security.

 The specified password that is given to the keypad

provide more security in comparision to the keys used in
simple locks . As an universal key can unlock the door
having normal lock.
LITERATURE REVIEW
 Literature survey of any project is
carried out to gain more information
and knowledge. The analysis and
design of the project has done by
many researches from books,
practicals, manual and documents
related to the concept of the project.

 The information helps to develop a project which work

effective as per the need of the human life. So digital door
lock system is more secure way for the safety.
OBJECTIVE
The objectives of our projects are as:
 To develop an electronic circuit for the locking of doors.
 To design a Door Lock System with the use of
microcontroller.
 To program a microcontroller for the opening/closing of
doors.
TECHNOLOGY USED
In this project, we will model a
door with an electric
controlled lock. We will use a
microcontroller to decide a
code to control opening and
closing of lock. Keypad will be
used to enter the code and 7-
Segment or LCD will be used to
display the code. A buzzer will

be used to make different • LCD
sounds on entry of correct and • Power supply
incorrect code. • Relay
• Keypad
The technological components

LOCK MECHANISM
DESCRIPTION
• Microcontroller - A microcontroller is used to given a specified
code for secure unlocking of door through keypad.
• Power Supply - A power supply is provided for smoothly working
of microcontroller that further helps other components to work.
• LCD - A liquid crystal display used to display that the password
entered is right/wrong.
• Keypad - It is used to enter the password.
• Lock Mechanism - The main component of the project that will
lock or unlock the door.
• Buzzer - It is used for alerting if unknown tries to unlock the
system.
• LEDs - Green and Red leds are used for the indication of right and
wrong passwords respectively.
PROPOSED METHODOLOGY
To tackle the security issues, we propose to replace physical keys
with digital keys that:
• can easily be distributed to users
• can be used by the known users only
• can be specialized for ease of correct user

The process of working of the system is that the password is

provided to microcontroller through programming. If the user
enters correct password the lcd displays correct password and
green led will turn ON. If the user enters the wrong password the
lcd displays wrong password, red led will turn ON and as the
alerting of unknown access buzzer starts sounding.

EXPECTED OUTCOMES
As per expected outcomes of our project are:
 We are able to develop an electronic circuit for the
locking of doors.
 We can design a Door Lock System with the use of
microcontroller.
 We learn to program a microcontroller for the
opening/closing of doors.
CONCLUSIONS
The proposed system allows remote access to lock or
unlock the door without using physical keys. The
system fulfils the requirements of supporting
autonomous locking device and easy key distribution
compared to physical keys. The system has minimum
requirement of time and has more security. The Buzzer
alert enhances the security of the system. The
prototype built shows that the design consumes
minimum power and the locking/unlocking of the door
happens in 10 seconds on an average. Thus the system
proposed is feasible and secure.
