SEMI-FORMAL
LETTERS/EMAILS
The characteristics of semi-formal
letter/email
To people we do not know well:
•A semi-formal greeting (Dear Mr Blake,)
•A polite, respectful tone (I would like to ask...)
•Use of less colloquial language (I thought I‘d
write... instead of Thought I‘d drop you a line...)
•Less frequent use of short verb forms, linking
words, phrasal verbs (Also, I was wondering if you
would be able to send me...)
•Semi –formal ending (Yours sincerely, + our full
name)
SEMI-FORMAL LETTERS
for people that you know but they are not intimate
with (your friend`s parents/a relative).
