DEMO TEACHING 5 Math

The document provides instruction on adding integers using different approaches like colored counters, number lines, and rules. It gives examples of adding positive and negative integers and solving word problems involving integer addition. Students are then given practice problems to solve involving adding positive and negative integers.

Mathematics
• Now I would like to divide you into two
groups. Group A will be on this side and
Group B on the other side. Now, here is
your task. I have a paper consist of different
numbers. All you have to do is to fill in the
vacant space in another number to come
up with the answer, use either addition or
subtraction.
• For example: -2 + 3 = 1
GROUP 1 GROUP 2
Objective
At the end of the lesson, the student should
be able to:

• add integers using different approaches;
• solve word problems involving addition of
integers.
Three Approaches Of Adding
Integers

Colored counter
Number line
Rule
Colored counter
Let us represent a + integer as green and then for - integer
as color red.

positve integer

negative integer

zero pair
Example:
3+4= 7

3+ (-4 ) = -1

-3+6= 3
Number line
-3+6= 3

-6 -5 -4 -3 -2 -1 0 1 2 3 4
Move 5 units to the left and 6 units to the
right

-5 -4 -3 -2 -1 0 1 2 3 4
Rule
SAME SIGN, add and keep DIFFERENT SIGN Unlike sign)
(

Like sign
subtract and copy the sign of the bigger
Example: value.
2+3= 5 Example:
-3+ (-5)= -8 3+ (-5 )= -2
-20+ 11 = -9
2+(-5)+(-3)
Solve this:
1. 7+(-5)=
2. 38+(-32)=
3. -45+23=
Form your group and each member of
the group will participate, for you to win.
Your task is to find the right way and
circle the correct answer that is written in
the arrow of the puzzle to get out from
the maze.
