Apple iPad

A touchscreen tablet made by a renowned

company known as Apple. This tablet can
access Wi-Fi and cellular data networks,
allowing the user to access the internet and
IOS applications as if it were a computer and
download applications as if it were a phone.

First debuting in 2010, the iPad, and other

apple products, seem to always make
breakthroughs in the technology world.

As we begin to evolve into a more technological

based society, the methods to teaching a
classroom change as well. Technology is
advancing day by day and using technology in
the classroom can pay dividends when
educating the new, technology driven, groups of
kids today.

The iPad can carry multiple education apps onto

the tablet. Since kids nowadays are more
technology based, these apps can benefit
teachers and students in the classroom. The
bright pictures and simplicity in some apps can
help Special Needs children develop basic skills.
My Experience
With my experience in watching Special Needs children use iPads, I got to experience first had in
how this technology works.
There are apps that follow a certain curriculum that is based on every kids needs. If a child has an
inability to vocalize themselves, there are apps that use words and images to help the student
build their knowledge and vocabulary by listening and seeing.
An iPad is a perfect tool to keep the students busy and away from certain distractions. With
certain parent lock features enabled, the possibility of the student straying away from the study
material is limited.

Since a lot of Special Needs children lack the

motor functions that a General Education kid
would normally have, iPads can assist in
trying to teach children.

There are Specific apps that can help with all

kinds of special needs. The specific software
on the iPad can help develop the certain
motor skills that Special Needs children lack.
Drawing and pointing out pictures can not
only play as an education purpose, but also as
a leisure activity for the kids.
Pros
The upside to technology in the classroom:
• The constant evolution of technology makes the possibilities of better software endless.
• The large screen and easy accessibility make it entertaining and convenient for any child.
• It is lightweight and portable.
Cons
There are no ups without its down:
• Apple products are known to be fragile with a varying battery life.
• Some children, especially Sped, may be a careless when handling.
• The dependency on technology can overrun the children’s learning abilities.
• The technology can get expensive.
