What is Social Media?
Social media is a collective term for websites and
applications that focus on communication, community-
based input, interaction, content-sharing and
collaboration.
People use social media to stay in touch and
interact with friends, family and various
communities. Businesses use social applications to
market and promote their products and track customer
concerns.
Social media has enormous traction globally. Mobile
applications make these platforms easily accessible.
Some popular examples of general social media
platforms include Twitter, Facebook and LinkedIn.
What is Communication?
Communication is simply the act of transferring
information from one place, person or group to another.
Every communication involves (at least) one sender, a
message and a recipient. This may sound simple, but
communication is actually a very complex subject.
The transmission of the message from sender to recipient
can be affected by a huge range of things. These include
our emotions, the cultural situation, the medium used to
communicate, and even our location. The complexity is
why good communication skills are considered so
desirable by employers around the world: accurate,
effective and unambiguous communication is actually
extremely hard.
