HISTORY OF

HERMOSA TOWN

 Before the Spanish came to town, Hermosa was called Mabuyan, derived from a variety of rattan that
grew abundantly along the banks of the Almacen river. The town was also called Babuyan because of the
many wild pigs that roamed around.
 The town of Hermosa was established on May 8, 1756 with St. Peter de Verona as patron saint.”Pueblo del
San Pedro Martir” It used to be part of Orani until the Dominican Order made Hermosa an independent
missionary center during the British invasion of Manila.
 On the same year, Hermosa officially became a town with the approval of Governor Manuel de Arandia.
In 1762, the Dominicans retreated to Bataan in order to escape the British and they decided to make
Hermosa their provincial headquarters in Bataan.
 Six years later, the name was changed to “Llana Hermosa” which means “a beautiful plain of white
flowers”.
