Writing A Concept Paper

A concept paper provides an overview of a proposed project or research study in 3 to 5 pages. It explains the rationale, goals, methodology, timeline and budget of the project or study. A concept paper is used to obtain feedback on a project idea or determine if a full proposal should be developed. It helps funding agencies eliminate unlikely proposals and focus their resources. The key parts of a concept paper include the background, project description or problem statement, methodology, timeline and budget. They should be clearly written and formatted according to the intended reader or agency's guidelines.

1. Definition is the method of identifying a given term and making

its meaning clearer.

• Informal definition is done through parenthetical or brief explanation.

defined, the general category of the term, and the quality that makes
the term different.

• Extended definition is a detailed way of defining a term and is usually

composed of at least one paragraph.

verses, quotes, or passages are taken from a literary or
