CHARACTERISTIC: TEACHERS WHO ALWAYS USE
GOOD LANGUAGE
- Always use good language when talking prompt pupils to respect you as their teachers.
- If the teachers use harsh and sarcastic words, pupils will lose their respect by acting
rebelliously and passively in the classroom or even express hatred towards their
teachers.
- EXAMPLE: If the teachers always use good words such as giving compliment ‘excellent’,
the pupils will feel they are appreciated which will lead them to appreciate their
teachers in return.
- In contrast, if the teachers always yell in the classroom, it will make the pupils to feel
afraid when interacting with that teachers.
- As the result, it will impair the good relationship in the classroom.
CHARACTERISTIC: TEACHERS WHO ARE OUTGOING AND HAVE A GOOD
SENSE OF HUMOUR
- We all know that teaching is serious business, but teachers do not have to be serious to be
effective.
- In fact, Bill Buskist and his posse of prolific protégés from Auburn University, who have studied
and identified the characteristics of excellent teachers for the past 20 years, have indicated that
possessing and exhibiting a good sense of humor is one of these characteristics. Humor can
also lead to the establishment of student-teacher rapport.
- Specific examples of teacher behaviors that promote student enjoyment of learning include
teachers telling jokes and funny stories; laughing along with students; and using relevant,
interesting and light-hearted personal examples to highlight important points.
- So teacher are highly recommended to make jokes, share funny stories, and don’t take
themselves too seriously. Although humor shouldn’t be a priority in the classroom, you should
work it in whenever possible.
- Through shared laughter, you’ll easily foster positive relationships with your students.
ADAPTABLE
● Another key to engaging students and improving their learning is to treat each
student as an individual, by being empathetic and understanding to what may
be going on in their lives.
● Teachers should take a moment to think back and think about what could be
going on in student’s life and it’s so important to be observant, attentive,
empathetic and always have a positive attitude.
● Rhonda Garrison, a student in SNHU's psychology program, said empathy
and understanding from a teacher can not only help that teacher make a
connection with a student, it can directly impact a student's learning in the
classroom.
● “Something that may be easy for one student may not be so easy for someone
else,” she said. “Everyone learns differently, whether it be faster or slower than
normal, learns better by writing, reading or hands-on.
● Teachers need to always keep this in mind and always pay close attention to
ensure each student is on the track they need to be.”
